Engine Knock trouble.
So i have a 95 honda accord that was non-vtec, i then swapped heads last summer and made it a vtec motor..yesterday as i was driving the engine started to knock and then became very worse that it was too late to save the motor. After driving the car died and when i opened the hood there was a big hole on the block saying "Hi". My question is if i get a parts car with a non-vtec motor will my vtec head still be good, considering the knock was developed around the rod bearings?
What motors can i just drop into the car if i decided to change to a different motor?
any input will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

A motor that needs 0 additional modification to "drop" in the car?
F22A or F22B..
If you wanted to do an H series you would need a few things but its fairly straight forward..
There really isnt anything thats just a drop in afair other than the same engine you pulled out.. You will find that you will need various odds and ends to complete any swap..

Its most definitely possible, you should take the head off and find out.. You might have gotten lucky, but im sure there will be some damage somewhere.. Since you say there is a hole in the block I assume the piston was on its way down, so It went out the block instead of on its way up and through the head.. I could be wrong though.. Total speculation without pics..

A rod threw the block would usually be in it's upward motion. in saying that hopefully the rod went through the block before the piston fell apart and smashed into the combustion chamber of the head a number of times. Only real way to tell is to remove the head from the block.
As for blocks that can be swapped. Pretty much anything that has 4 cylinders and is of the F, H or K series Honda engine. The further you go down the alphabet the more expensive the swap gets. There are a few how to swap guides in the Accord FAQ.
A 95 F22B1 engine would be a cheap and direct swap for VTEC.
Good luck

Thanks for all the input guys i really appreciate it, now when i pull of the head what am i lookin for? impact signs?
Reason i'm askin is the wreckers wants a good amount for a motor where i found a parts car for less just that the parts car does not have the vtec motor, so if i can check my head and make sure its not damaged i can buy the parts car, if not then i have to get one from the wreckers.
