koni yellow snap ring failure

snap ring failed koni is sending new ones just figured id let people know this is possible and maintaining your car could save your life . i caught this before i hit a pothole on the fwy or had them fail mid turn. taking 10 mins to make sure everything looks right mechanicly might have saved my life!
after i sat the car back down the snap ring failed completely on the right side causing it to slide the coil sleeve perch down all the way almost . needless to say the tire was on the wheel well .

No the Koni specific GC's capture the circlip by the sleeve itself, the I.D. is exactly machined to fit over the outside of the Konis snugly.
Yeah I have a set of GC's that have been on my car for more than 100k miles and they don't look half that bad. Lets just be glad the OP didn't have a serious accident.
ill disasemble the shock tomorow and see if maybe i was an idiot and put the sleeve on upside down somehow.. post picture by picture for you guys. yeah 1000s def. a understatement its about 3k at the very most.
No more than 3000? Are you rallying your car in winter conditions?

When the GC sleeve is all the way down and seated on the circlip, you should not be able to see the circlip at all. It should completely capture and cover the circlip, which prevents the clip from slipping out of the groove. I would also like to know if perhaps you installed them upside down.
You can install these sleeves upside down? Man, I better pay close attention when I install mine, if my damn Koni's ever show up!
I ordered them on March 1st and still don't have them. Backorder FTL!

eh? There are no additional parts used besides the Koni circlip and the GC sleeve. Are you referring to the rings that sit on the circlip when using the normal spring perches? If so, those are not used when mounting GC sleeves.
See the link in my sig showing proper GC/Koni assembly.

Additional collar? Where does it go? Are you sure you have Koni-specific GC's? Koni-specific sleeves should match the diameter of the Koni shock body exactly. You can use regular sleeves but you need an additional adapter. Maybe you're referring to this adapter ring?

Those are standard sleeves, not Koni-specific. That groove on the black ring is machined directly into the sleeve on the Koni-specific ones, and the ID of the sleeve is about 1/2" smaller than the ID of the standard sleeves.
And looking at the OP's pics again, it appears I can see the bottom of the machined groove in the first pic, which would indicated the OP did have them installed correctly (if they were fully seated). Crazy, I've never seen that happen before.
