Default Importing a UKDM vehicle to US

So after browsing around tonight, searching for ITR's as if I have infinite funds and garage space I came across some UKDM ITRs. I know that shipping is by no means cheap but the MR one is roughly $6800 USD and current bid on the CW is going for a measly $3400 despite it's 130K mileage.

Here is an MR one http://global.ebay.com/Honda_Integra...541440793/item

And a CW one http://global.ebay.com/1998_HONDA_IN...406997352/item

Since i was curious, I did some searching and surprisingly only found people asking how to import a US car to UK. Now, i am by no means going to be buying either of these caRs but i am just wondering what kind of hoops you have to jump through to make a UK car legal, whether it is the same, harder, or maybe easier than registering a JDM version. Anyone have any insight? I would ask Shorsh, but as far as i know he only handles JDM imports.

BONUS: you can aslo pick this little gem up for only $25,000.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1994-...item3cab3a099b

I don't think I've seen any UKDM ITR's posted in this forum by USA users. For some reason I find those prices they want in US currency extreamly inexpensive. I would have paid 8k for a UKDM ITR and whatever else to ship it here and register it. I paid 15k for one here anyway. It doesn't seem like I'd spend that much on buying the actual ITR and shipping it over..

Check out pistonheads, they usually have alot of them for sale. I don't know anything about importing from the UK, but you might ask missbitch. She almost bought one that was already here not too long ago. She might be able to get you in touch with someone who was selling it in the US (possibly whom imported it) and they might be able to answer some questions. Alot of importing rules and regs vary from state to state. Check with your local DMV too.

There's also a guy on ebay that sells mini coopers by the container. He may have some good input on registering int he US...

Hmm hopefully she can chime in to provide some information in this thread. I tried to make the title of the thread easily found if searched for, since there are no prior threads with information.

If you were to buy a UK ITR you need to remember we get a lot of rain here and during the winter months salt is spread over all the roads. Because of this I would say a lot of UK ITR and even the JDM ITR that have been in the UK for a while have some kind of rust around the rear arches and sills.

There is lots of ITR's in the UK though and you can pickup UK cars or JDM cars from here for pretty cheap. But the rust is just something to look out for if you got serious about buying an ITR from the UK.

good point i didn't consider. definetely something you risk if you are not able to see the car in person first.

I thought something else was used in Europe other then salt on the roads to protect against sliding. If not, their has to be something better to use that won't ruin our cars.

In: because I'd like to know since I may be living in London next year. Wait, these prices can't reflect the general value can they? Anyone in the UK want to chime in?

UK prices

UKDM high miles, well used £3000, tidy £4-5000, Very good condition £6-7000 maybe £8000+ for an amazing condition one

jdm 96 spec seem to go for £3000 to £6000 in the UK

jdm 98 spec seem to go for £5000 to £9000 in the UK

on a side note, importing between eu countries is very easy so german etc LHD models are probably the same to import as UK ones if you'd prefer LHD MR

So does the fact that you could pick up a LHD ITR from Europe help any in regards to legally registering it here? Obviously you would get a lot less attention from la policia, but is there any benefit registration-wise? On the surface it would seem like there would be, but I fear you would just have to deal with all the same hoopla as a JDM RHD vehicle.
