Default Help Honda Accord Check engine Issue

I have a Preowned Honda Accord Coupe 96. Runs great so far, I have had it for about 6 months. Recently over the last month, the check engine light goes on for a day then goes away for 3-4 days. Then returns for 2 days then disappears and returns the next week.

So it keeps going on and off. Should I be worried? Any idea why this could be happening? Anyone else have this issue. I just don't understand why it goes away then returns. Thanks, I'm getting annoyed so I'm going to call Honda. Any help would be great.

You'll want to check the catalytic converter and related O2 sensor devices if you haven't already.

Go to Auto Zone or advanced. They usually read the check engine lights for free

yep, second that. autozone and advance do the diagnostic for free and you get the code and related description on a piece of receipt paper. takes only a few minutes once you get somebody to help you. good luck.

Get the codes from Vatozone for free, but DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ADVICE OF THE AUTOZONE GUY WHEN HE TRIES TO SELL YOU PARTS. They are notorious for selling people the wrong parts. Consult the forum before purchasing parts unless it's something small/stupid like an oxygen or coolant temp sensor.

You were right! I haven't been on in long tim but it was the catalytic converter. I was under warranty so I got a new one. No problems in past year since.

Let me correct you. Autozone, Advance, and any other parts stores only READ CODES they do not do DIAGNOSTICS. Diagnostics are beyond their scope of ability. All they give you is a code, and reading a code is only giving you (some of the time) the general area of the problem. It is up to the Auto Technician to perform diagnostics and determine the source of the issue. I get so frustrated with parts sellers.
