Default Installing a clutch without a clutch alignment tool

Hello,

I am wondering if you can install a clutch without a clutch alignment tool?
I just bought a used car with 214000 kms and it might need a clutch in the near future. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ht_3656wt_1166

However, it doesnt come with the clutch alignment tool. Can a clutch be installed without the tool? If not, does anyone have one kicking around?

I use a long 1/4 inch socket that is a lil smaller than the splined part of the clutch disc and wrap it with a couple wraps of duct tape so that is just fits into the splines then i tape it to an extension. Works perfect in a pinch.

I have done over a dozen clutch's and still do not own an alignment tool. It's really easy to eyeball it and get it close enough to get the trans to slide right on.

Use the extension but instead of duct tape just put on a socket that fits snug.
There's a writep somewhere in the archives

I found an Exedy Clutch Kit with Flywheel http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...#ht_2326wt_940

and a XTR Racing Clutch Kit http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ht_2573wt_1166

Which one is better? The XTR comes with a 8.5Lb flywheel and can handle 195HP and 181 TQ

i have done this without a tool several time and my pops has been workin in a trans shop r&i trannys for over 20 years..... its easier and dummy proof with the tool but its not required a trick we use is to use the tip of w/e finger fits best to center it, easiest way to do this is to put the pressure plate on loose and then tighten the bolt closest to the bottom and continue to tighten in a cross pattern like a wheel. i have done this at least like 4 times w/ my eg, i tend to drive it hard and go thru tranny's very frequently but i have rocked the same act stage 2/3, not sure cuz i bought it used for 50 bucks, for 3 years now!

if you got a pressure plate already, and just need the disc, get an exedy clutch disc for 80$, better than ebay. i say this because i bougth a xtd stag 3 clutch (6-puck sprung) and it slips at high rpm after 5k miles on it

Is it slipping on a stock motor?

I ended up buying this clutch kit: XTR Racing Clutch Kit since it comes with a 8.5lb flywheel and can handle 195hp and 181 tq

lol wat a clown! ha ha ha
yea u dont need an alignment tool. the socket with tape works fine.
or u can do like me and use your eyes and line it up, jus tighten the PP jus enough to hold the clutch in place and use a 3/8 drive extension or a large screw driver to shift the clutch to dead centre. can be done in under a minute.

haha.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I just bought the clutch kit with an alignment tool so I will be using the tool.

I just hope the XTR clutch will be good and wont slip. I have a stock motor.
