I am looking for a reasoning why when a motor sits for a few days the motor whines when you first start it up till it is warm. It does not get louder when the RPM's go up but stays fairly consistent throughout. My guess its a bearing issue, just not sure hence why I am asking here. The motor has 130K miles so that also lends me to think its a bearing. Its a D16Y8 motor, with a manual transmission. Also note that this does not occur every time the motor sits, its inconsistent. Is it safe to assume that due to the amount of rain we had there was water and or condensation build up somewhere causing the noise?

Which belt is making the whining noise? It could possibly be due to the belt being loose and you need to tension it.

 

possibly just water, if it goes away when warm, my dads cars do it every know and then.

 

In my experiences a loose belt will not cause a whining noise, on the other a hand a belt that is to tight will.
