Default Synthetic Tranny Oil

I have a 97' Honda Accord, 4 cyl. I want to change the tranny fluid to synthetic. Has anyone done this yet? If, so what tranny oil did you use? Any recommendations? I was thinking of trying Mobil 1 Full Synthetic or Mobil Multi-Vehicle ATF.

i put full sythetic Redline Dexron III in mine about 140,000 miles ago. Been running fine till now, about 188,000 miles, starting to slip slightly btw 1 & 2. Thinking about changing it again and searching what people recommend on here. Everybody seems to say Honda ATF.

total waste of money to use synthetic oil in 5th gen 4at......they will easily go 400k+ using only honda atf.....my friend is driving my old '94 accord LX with well over 200K on the original AT and is still going strong.....is is getting close to needing his next timing belt......

Yeah I'm curious to hear the reasoning behind wanting to go to synthetic for the transmission....I have a feeling it's a "Well my friend said he gained 5hp from it"

hypervish just stick with the Honda ATF Z1. This is not something that you want to chance. It's not going to shift faster or better with any other brand fluids, they have sales pitches, that's it.

the only reason I could see someone wanting synthetic is if they are worried about tranny fluid temps .. as is the case in my Volvo S80 where I run Amsoil ATF.. but seriously, use honda, its the good stuff for your car

No, it's not one of those my friend told me he gained 5 hp; thats probably what your friend told you and you believed it! The question I asked is what synthetic tranny oil do you recommend not do you think i need synthetic.

It won't shift faster thats for sure. But, it will definitely have smoother shifting.

Lol, no, you have quite the skewed view on this.

The newest formula of Honda ATF is more than sufficient for your transmission - especially after however many years of abuse/old fluid you had.

There's no reason to switch this late in the game to synthetic. If you for whatever reason want to waste your money on it Amsoil has an MTF (I'll assume they make an ATF) and Royal Purple is the same.

Also FYI, Mobil 1 "synthetic" oils are not truly synthetic in the world, you should look at the tests with them - they perform quite poorly.
