a clunking noise and vibration!?!?help.
so i have been addressing a problem that progressively got worse. my car was clunking pretty bad at any speed after 25, but only when i held the wheel straight, i also got vibration under braking and the same clunk whenever i hit a bump.
Progress : new axle, replaced new inner and outer tie rods that were tore up, and a alignment.
now the clunking noise has moved up 45+mph, but still get vibration during braking, and still hearing a thud noise when i go over larger bumps.
any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm having no fun driving this car as of now.
i think its maybe a bent front rim, halfshaft? f'ed trans?
=[

lug nuts are def. tight, and a bent rim would be a good candidate since it would wobble while moving if it was bent. there has to be something dumb im not realizing..
is the thud just your shock towers hitting the top of the wheel well? like that kind of noise?
id have to say check your rotors for that vibration.
no idea on the clunking though.

If the rear trailing arm bushings are worn out you are likely to hear a clunk when you hit a bump at any speed. You won't hear the clunk until you hit a bump.
Vibration that only occurs under braking sounds like a brake problem. Replacing the rotors and brake pads might fix this.

If the clunk is coming from the front then it could be the front compliance bushings. They also have been known to wear out and cause a clunking noise when hitting a bump.
ttt, rims are fine, compliance bushing is a good idea still have to check those, only thing is that it feels like the clunking is coming from the whole front end not just pass. or drivers side, any other ideas?
There vibration during braking is definetly your rotors being warped, replace your rotors and pads, or get your rotors resurface if it's blank rotors and is not at it's minimum thickness and replace pads. The front clunking noise, I wanna ask if you have front sway bar? If you do, then it might be your front sway bar bushings and end links that's making the clunking noise when going over bumps. When the bushings wear it really isn't holding the sway bar firmly so when you hit a bump it makes a clunking noise, you can try with that if you have front sway bar.
