ticking noise and loss of power
I just noticed about a week ago that my 99 civic with a d16y8 vtec was ticking or knocking as my rpms go higher. At idle it sounds fine, but about 2500 to 3000 rpms it starts making the noise. It continues through the rest of the rpms. Also it seems like there isn't as much power as it used to have. Does anyone have an idea what my problem is. Thanks a lot...
Hopefully this isn't what happened to me, but basicly broke something (never took the engine apart to see the damage) when letting it rev too high for too long. When I heard it break though my oil light instantly came on, and stayed on until I finally completely threw a rod. I was able to cruise around for probably 2 months, and 5k+ miles before it finally completely went out. I also wouldn't hear it at idle but right around 3k I would hear the noise. Ill keep my fingers crossed for you, hopefully its nothing major. Possibly get a mechanics stethascope and start poking around, or you can always pull off the oil pan. New gaskets are like 20 I think from honda
Ok. thanks. Just took it by a local mechanic shop thats says it most likely is a rod bearing, rod or piston. Not to sure what he was talking about. But he disconnected one of the spark plugs and the noise almost went away. Only slightly seemed like it was making it no where near how it it was.
