Looking to get an Intake Manifold for my D15. What's the best?

ANy suggestions/ experience?


ALL D-series fit the same right?

 

One of the main difference between IM's is runner length. As you may know, the IM uses shockwaves to increase power at a specific RPM range and the length of the runners determines what RPM's that is. You'll want to decide at what RPM range you want that extra kick. While you may not have the chance to actually look at the ports, you'll also want to have the runner ends as exactly the same size and shape of the head's intake ports as possible. Bigger runner openings will cause flow-decreasing turbulence and smaller ones are of course restrictive.

 

What are your plans with this setup? I personally don't think it's sensible to put NA parts on a D, but that's me....if this was for a boosted setup, i'm all for it

 

I'm gonna build my D15- go ALL MOTOR, do something different, everyone swaps or boosts their D, I wanna BUILD IT!

 

While the manifold wouldn't be the first choice in pre-turbo parts, it could at least still be used if you went the forced route. Schister of course has a valid point about D's needing a turbo to make competitive power, especially a 15.

 

You can do whatever your little heart desires. I won't knock you for doing it, but will stand by my statement that NA D series builds are fruitless wastes of money. Dollar for dollar, you'll see a tiny fraction of the return as you would with a boosted setup...

pwr/blox/skunk2 useless period no gains till past 7,000 rpms...
obx is just trash i use it to collect rain water

 

If you want to go all motor with the tiniest Honda engine, you should really have a look at their lawnmowers. With i/h/e a Honda mower engine in a Civic will totally run nines.

I have a D16Y7 and I wanna just do all motor too for a dd (plans are subject to change) and have a 240 s13 for the track drift car. IMO PWDJDM is what I'd for an intake. Alot of people around here have them and they can feel a huge pick up.

 

As mentioned, i wouldn't waste any kind of money on a d series if running N/A

If you really have your heart set on it though, have your stock manifold send out to be ported at a good place like extrude hone...it'll make more power than most or all of those aftermarket manifolds.

1. golden eagle is the best d-series manifold so far... VENOM is a knock off but i mean a knock off of the best must be still good right? might have fitment issues..

2. for N/A id cut port out the stock z6 manifold -runners-plenum- all of it then i would reweld it. i was going to personally do this myself.

 

i think only 1 company makes aftermarket rods for the 1.5 but as far as bolt ons and so id go zex 59300 and bisimoto headers and venom/ported z6 manifold. aem v2 intake and higher comp pistons

 

This thread is crazy...d series all motor, spend all that money to make a little more power, WHY???

I spent $1200 for a complete B20Z swap, and added only 3 mods
- light weight flywheel
- no name short ram intake
- Edelbrock header

Car made 142hp to the wheels, and 134ft lbs tq

A way better investment and more power than building a D engine

 

He's talking about the manifold not the intake. But yes, the whales ***** intake is your best route.

Eh, people always bash on d series. Why is that . The only funny thing is when their Dual loses to Single they still admit they have the faster car.

to OP: What engine mods do you currently have done so far.

 

I'm not bashing, i'm speaking from a guy who has now had 49 cars with both sohc and dohc engine...hmmm, sounds pretty unbiased!!!

As i mentioned in my earlier post...look at the torque i was making, at the wheels...d series don't do that!!

Don't give me that sohc vs dohc...and the sohc being the better, it's not. As for racing, to many variables....bad driver, different car/weight, tune...ect ect

At the end of the day, even on a dyno, a dohc makes more power...in fact, stock for stock, a dohc cylinder head 30% more air

 

I'm also not bashing.

I'm not saying SOHC's are faster (I'm a fan of 4 cylinders to those big blocks). Of course the bigger the engine the more power your produce. It's just SOME people say throw the D away and upgrade. Some only say that because of the engine size, but the way I see it that little single cam does have alot of potentials of being a fun track car. Of course no D series can make that much TQ, unless you crap money or your aim for boost.

I'm just saying, let him do what he wants but that's also why I asked what mods does he currently have on. If he said just I/H/E, that IM won't help him abit and should stick to the stock one. Maybe a little cams, pistons, and some head work, I'd say get the Skunk2 and get a tune.

PS:Great numbers by the way. If I didn't have a 7th gen and had a 91-00 civic or integra I would jump onto B20's because it's my ideal way for the best bang for its bucks.

Yeah, I mean I didn't want you to get the wrong impression and think of me as another guy who talks about what he hears.

 

IMO, the best intake manifold is the Edelbrock Performer X.

 

if you are going to say that i would like to know why it is the best.... hes going N/A not boost

 

i would go with the skunk2!!
