HELP!...Wierd starting, and boggin before 3k
Hey guys just like the titlle says im having some issues with a 98 ex coupe I just picked up.
First thing first....motor is stock minus a intake. And its throwing the following CEL's
1. Cooolant temp sensor, Just replaced this and its still throwing a code?
2. VSS...(Vehicle Speed Sensor) I just replaced this as well and its still throwing a code, as well as the speedo not working.
The car does have a missing 3rd gear, 1st gear wines harder then a 3 year old...and is a bitch to get in and out of reverse. That being said...Im thinking maybe the gear the VSS runs off of inside the trans, is broken or missing. I've never heard of this but maybe its a possiblity..what do you guys think?
In the morning or when the car hasnt been ran or driven all day, it doesn't want to start. What I mean is that I have to hold the key to the crank position for about 15 sec or more before it will begin to fire on its own. After that its really weak...idle is about 500rpm tops and if I give it any gas it bogs out and dies.
After the car is warmed up, it will start fine but bogs hard before 3k or around 3300k. After that its a lil better but being as tho im getting a VSS CEL, I dont have vtec but can def tell it doesnt struggle to climb rpm's after 3k.
I have replaced the plugs, fuel filter, rotor button, VSS, ECT sensor....what could be causing the hard bog before 3-3300k? I will say after I had replaced the rotor button I noticed that the time it took to start the car in the morning went from around 20-25 secs to the 15 secs explained above.

Do you guys think possibly the bogging is a timing issue?

waitng for some money a guy owes me so i can pick up the trans...the new vss was already installed, brand new but I believe the gear inside the tranny is messed up. Becuase theres no reading according to the comp.
Also recalibrated the TPS today...very minor improvement if any really...car still hesitates, to acelerate. Almost as if there is no power.
you really think the VSS. could cuase my car to have no power, and bogg?

K so today I fixed the ECT sensor...so no more code for that.
I also re-calibrated the TPS. Its pretty much spot on...no code for that either.
The vtec oil pressure swicth as well as the cooling fan swicth on the thermostat housing were both replaced.
I now only have a code for the VSS...I did the test in the haynes manual, and either the connector is junk or the vss itself inst sending any current back. ( which leads me to believe that the gear in the tranny is toast? But I can see something in there like the final drive I believe....) Possible or no?
I order a new one which should be here tuesday.

Also I have seen a big dif after the ECT, and TPS were corrected. Do you think whats left of my bogging is cause the VSS or maybe a fuel or ignition prop? I'm going to test the ignition coil tomm. If all turns out well ill check the fuel pressure and if thats ok im leaning on it just being the VSS. What do you guys think?
