one of the questions - most people should ask? is it for looks or for racing/performance

racing - koni/ground control (over your limit though)

LOL did you not read the sticky thread at the top of this forum? What you ask is pretty much impossible, especially with that budget. You CAN NOT ride slammed and have a decent ride. Period! The springs have to be so stiff to keep from bottoming out all the time that the ride becomes bone-crushingly harsh. That's just the way it is unless you start spending tens of thousands of dollars on custom chassis modifications, relocating suspension points, etc. But then you better have a degree in suspension engineering because there are TONS of variables with suspension geometry that determine how a car rides, and more importantly, how it handles when cornering, when the suspension on each side of the car is compressed different amounts, front wheels are turned, etc.

Get yonaka coilovers. They are pretty much the same thing as Function Form, but only 550 new. However they are just for the street and not racing, basically just to slam your car. They ride nice though, they say the rates are 12k/6k but the must be valved like **** because it feels like 8k/6k. They do last, a few people on another forum i go on have had them for years just fine.

If its only for daily street driving then get a simple shock/strut set like Tokiko's, KYB's, Koni's, even Skunk2's on decent lowering springs! watch out for the spring rates tho..
