Gsr swap.. obd 1 to obd 1 a few questions
I know there's a search option, but after reading thread after thread, i'm not finding the answers i need...
I have a 93 civic ex.. d16z.. 1.6 litre single cam v-tec. I want to put a b18c gsr engine in it, but i'm unsure of a few things.
I know pretty much everything that has to be done, except the wiring aspect of it. My first question is do i need to use a different computer, or will the one from my single cam work?
The second question is about the wiring harness. Do i need to put a gsr harness in the car? Or can i use my stock 1.6 vtec harness? If i can use the harness i currently have, do i need to change any of the connectors?
Thanks for your help guys.. i appreciate it

93 civic ex coupe had a z6 right? so that came with a P28.. so im pritty sure that technicaly it will work. but i would highly recamend getting ur p28 chiped to gsr program or getting a p72.
as for the harness. im pritty possative you can use your stock one because ur doing obd1 to obd1, i did similar swap but i had to use a obd2 harness cuz my gsr is obd2.
hope this helps. and somone please back me up on this cuz im not certain.

you use your stock wiring harness and ad wires for the IAB's (if you are running the stock intake manifold) and either chip your p28 or get the stock gsr ecu.
Aside I think this is in the wrong section, and that guys grammar up there is appalling ^ there is truth to it.
You can run your p28 but it won't run as well as it should on a P72 gsr ecu. Wiring is mostly the same, but the GSR has a few funking things like a secondary butterfly thing. I'm not sure what it is but it's just a bit more wiring. I've helped a friend put in a JDM GSR and everything was fine, so there's nothing to add to your harness

ok cool, thanks guys, i appreciate it... and i know this is in the wrong section, i just have no idea how to put it in the correct section...
Will the p72 just plug into the harness for my p28? or is it a different connector?

Yeah man exactly what everyone above me has posted. Your connectors will all be the same and if your confused on the extra wiring for your secondary butterflies just search here for the wiring diagram for a P72 ecu. I highly recommend using a P72 if your using the stock intake manifold and plan on using the secondary butterflies. If not you can always just do a delete on them and use a chipped P28. But seeing how you sound like your pretty new to this it would just be easier to source a P72 and call it a day. Keep your P28 handy in case you ever want to run a chipped setup. Just my .02 cents.... There is a ton of info on all this i know theres posts with a how-to and photos to go along with it for a step by step...... Good luck.......
