94 Civic Oil Leak, what to look for
My 94 civic 1.5 has 243,000 miles. This morning i left for work and my wife called and said there was a huge puddle of oil on the garage floor. it wasn't there yesterday. I went back home and opened the hood to see if it was coming from the distributer or head. but it all looks dry. i looked underneath and it's coming from the front of the motor. my oil pan is wet and you can see where it was leaking on my way home last night it's wet on some places. I need to jack it up and pull the plastic cover off thats bolted to the bumper cover, that's where is seems to be leaking at above it. i called my friend who's a mechanic and said it's probably the oil sending unit. he's seen those go. the timing belt and water pump was changed at 180000 miles so that shouldn't be the issue i wouldn't think. it's to much oil. the sending unit would be the only thing i would think that would leak that much oil that quick. what are you thoughts

You've got to clean all of the oil off and then watch it to see where it's coming from. Jack it up, clean it, get a cold beverage and wait. Could be the oil pan gasket. Who knows.
Found it. ended up leaking around the crank. i got me a new timing belt, and crank seal. i figure that's what it is. didn't know if i should a get a timing cover seal to, they kinda look the same to me. i just hope to get the damper pulley off. i got everything else off. i used my snap on impact and that was a no go. so i got a guys 3/4" impact, that should take care of that
If it is all over your oil pan. More than likely, it is your oil pan gasket. All you have to do is replace it. I had the same issue. But, you have to figure out what caused it to leak. More than likely you don't have ventilation of engine. There could be 2 things that could cause this. You could have a dirty air filter or you could have a inoperable pcv valve, or both. You can look at your air filter to see if it is dirty. But, more than likely you have not changed your pcv valve. It only cost $2.00, I just found it easier to change rather than check it. Also, if you replace your oil pan gasket, you want to make sure it doesn't happen again. Due to lack of maintenance. I had it done to my 1994 Honda Civic LX and have not had any more problems with it.
youre lucky u were able to get it back home and catch it in time before u drove around with all your oil gone. my crank seal went before too. not pretty

got my car apart and it was the crank seal leaking, the old one was pretty bad. did notice i better change my water pump as well, it's a little wet behind it. should be back together tonite. one other issue i have now is my brother who had the car before me put plugs in about 60K miles ago, put them in way to tight. i can't get one out, it has that feeling when turning the wratchet the threads are going to strip or the plug is going to break. might wait till i drive it to work and back home when its warm and maybe get it out
