Sorry I forgot to mention it's a jdm. Gsr and itr have the same stamp. B18c no numbers after. Is there anything else on the block to determine which one it is?

No number after the second digit should mean its imported, or aka "JDM" B18B(x) <-- that #

there is no way to tell on the short block even if you pull the pan, only if you pull the head or have a fiber scope to snake down the plug hole. p72 is still on the bottom of the rod. the cranks are different, pistons are different and usdm itrs have R on the side of the rods. unsure on jdm. you could inspect the head bolts for signs of being taken off. same with the cam caps and whatnot. most all the jdm importers just get pulls from just stock jap cars. i still have yet to see a gsr bottom with a pr3 head but some may be out there.

Yes they should say R on the side of the rods^.... But the GSR and ITR bottem ends are really no different(ITR is balanced better) I know when I built one of my ITR's most of all the parts were for both motors. But I still wouldn't spend top dollar on an JDM ITR just for the reason as it could just be a poor mans type-r, which aren't bad motors though in other words... Honestly unless you take it apart you won't know, but why would u buy it then, if just have to take it apart?

the type r is somewhat of a better deal if you just want a peppy daily driver. a jdm gsr is 1750 shipped and the type r 2500 shipped. figure the cams, manifold, header and throttle body alone on the type r will set you back 900 used. it's easier just buying it all assembled.

Thanks for the info... I just got scared when I saw P72 stamped on the back of the block but im guessing aside from the internals the gsr and type r blocks are identical. It doesnt look like it was touched but you never know.

Yeah, it is pretty tough trying to tell the difference apart on jdm B18C short blocks, when a head is mounted on it. From the outside, they look the same.

If the head is off, it's a matter of seeing what is stamped on the pistons

As far as the crank goes...it's bitter sweet in my opinion!

Type R- fully counter balanced, so is about 20% smoother running after 8000rpm, but it weights more

GSR crank- weights less, so it spools up faster....after 8000rpm, it'll feel like it's working a bit harder, but will still do it
