Weird overheating issue

So just recently I noticed that my car would get hotter than normal, I went to check it out and the top radiator hose felt cold but the bottom one was pretty warm. However it was not hot like normal. I changed the radiator hoses and the t stat and check the radiator for clogs.
It flows water through it like normal, but after all of that work the car still overheats and a couple of things I have noticed.
The Cap does not get hot or when I take it off it does not sound like there is pressure in the radiator.
The top hose is still cool, and the bottom one is warm near the radiator, but near the t stat housing it is cold.
Now I am thinking either one or two things perhaps the cap was bad all along and not pressuring the system. Or that I may have replaced the t stat wrong? The cut in the gasket is in the same spot the metal piece on the t stat is and I just put it in..I am not sure if that metal piece that sticks up has to be in a specific direction or not..
Either way sorry that this is long but I am stumped at this point.
Thanks

You might have to buy an automotive thermometer to make sure the gauge isn't off. I just had to replace my gauge sending unit ($18,the one wire yellow/green one) that's on the side of the head under the dizzy. In my case the gauge was reading too low.
restricted radiator or defective thermostat.
the little metal piece of metal you are referring to is called the piddle valve. It should always be on top.

I am reading the temps from hondata so it is from the ecu, if that sensor is bad would it throw off readings from the ecu as well?
Also when you say the piddle valve should be up do you mean up like at 12 o clock or simply facing out? Because I know it is out but I am not 100% sure if it is at 12 o clock...

The ECU has a different sensor right next to the one for the gauge. But if the ECU reading is fine, then it's prob not overheating and the gauge is off. The two sensors are not connected.
Gauge=one yellow&green wire, smaller and further back on the block
ECU=2 wire one red, one green, bigger and closer to the front

It overheats via the ECU and i am not 100% sure what direction the thermostat is facing, but I found out another issue the radiator is leaking...
So ill fix the other issues and check the t stat once I get a new radiator..
