Default any review of a turbo R??

Is anyone out there with a boosted R can give me a good review of performance, reliability, gas milage etc.... any 1/4 miles times with baseline drag 3 kit

here's some question I have for my fellow boosted R

Will the R engine hold a drag 3 turbo kit with walboro fuel pump, 320cc injectors, 12.1 fmu disk, 3 inch full exhaust running 7psi with little tuning of cam gears and fpr

do you have to retard the timing

how long has the stock R engine hold up with 7psi of boost??
thanks

Sure if you have a tiny turbo with low boost and a small powerband. Otherwise take a guess why a pro turbo honda ex: papdakis shifts twice in 1320 feet and hits traps at 180mph. Short gearing right?

riiiiight, drag 3 isn't going 8.1@180. Try out an EMS and tune the car. V-AFC and street tuning isn't crap without a wideband.

Well there is one good thing about boosting an ITR.....You dont need a shift light you simply shift everytime you hear massive detonation

tell that to Zygspeed, or turbor481, or any of the other turbo charged ITRs on this board.

I didnt say it couldnt be done Im just saying the B18C5 wasnt ever intended to be boosted. Everything about it was designed to make N/A power...EVERYTHING
I only know of two honda engine designed for boost, one goes in a jet ski, and the other was a late 80's JDM only small car. And the guys with Turbo on the their B18C5's KNOW it wasnt INTENDED for boost. This is why they lower compression, build internals and TUNEEEEEEEEEEEe. So dont bash them for turboing their cars, most of them seem to know what they are doin and their cars seem pretty reliable.

Rguy, who drove 6 hours round trip with TurboR481 at 80mph+ with several high speed boosts, and his car is FINE.

so - your point is?

Well there is one good thing about boosting an ITR.....You dont need a shift light you simply shift everytime you hear massive detonation
swing by some time - see if you can hear the detonation in my car over the 60mm wastegate

Yes, a turbo ITR and Steph's car make a very good comparison.

Thanks for your insight.

Mine is running like a top now. It's only at 5 psi, stock plugs, stock timing, stock injectors, 12:1 FMU, stock exhaust. It pulls HARD and it is a blast to drive. I'll be running the 1/4 mile Wednesday and will post the results here, dyno charts hopefully next weekend but I'm a bit poor right now.

FYI -- I do believe the TT Porsche turbo has about an 11:1 compression ratio!

Well, I guess I'm really up a creek then since I don't even own an engine made for N/A power much less turbo power. Stock timing, ignition, internals, etc... all stock. The one thing I have that the ITR does not have is a low comp. ratio. But, even at that, I have met 2 guys with the B18C5 boosting over 7psi with stock pistons and only retarding timing 2 deg., though they I will admit they have spent plenty of time tuning them which is really the key when boosting any engine made for N/A.

Take the time to tune your engine correctly and you can make it reliable. Slap on a turbo and crank the boost up to 10psi without taking the proper precautions(tuning) and expect to destroy the engine.

Here's a third, at least (and don't forget the old JDM only Honda City turbo, a fourth).

It's a V6 F1 motor from the mid to late 80's, putting out from 1000-1500? hp from 1.5 L , depending on boost settings (I hear they ran 4 bar or 60 psi at times)

And just 'cus I'm in a good mood, I'll only post the link!
