Does a silencer affect torque or HP?
I have a new OBX B5 muffler that came with the silencer (the adjustable kind that screws inside the muffler tip) and I friend told me to take it off because it restricts exhaust--and affects power. I have it off, but it's a bit loud for my taste...my question is, is this true? Does a silencer restrict exhaust flow?
Ya I have the same muffler and I notice a difference when I take it out at the autoX.
BTW I love my OBX. The construction is great. Full SS, perforated inner pipe, SS and fiberglass packing. I don't see anything wrong with it.

USually most honda owners have too free flowing of an exhaust. The silencer will reduce HP but you will see a torque increasement at lower RPM. Overall is does effect the HP numbers.
i have a focuz muffler with custom 2.25piping and i tested it with the silencer on and off (on a dyno) and it came up giving me same hp and 1more torque and the sound was not silenced... it was still loud

i'd say use it if it's too loud for you. are you really going to feel 1hp? not likely. it won't make a difference in racing, and if you want to shoot your car for being too loud, it just wouldn't make any sense to not silence it IMO.
