instead of buying a full of exhaust system
what would be the advantages of just buying a muffler?

anything? nonthing?

what about sound? would that at least change?

you won't get as much power and low end torque as you would out of cat-back, noise is the same as a usual cat-back, for instance, the universal N-1 muffler sounds the same as a N-1 catbakc, but just sucks more. also, when you buy just a muffler, you'll have to weld it on, where as a cat-back, you just have to bolt on, bc/ most parts are welded together already.

are you talking about just a muffler alone? or a muffler with custom piping?

wit the custom piping, you'll get the same power as with a cat back for alot less mooOOlah

Depends on exhaust. Most likely though, you'll get a louder tone out as you rev up, though not as much as a "cat-back" system. If you want to be REAL loud, just eliminate the exhaust and muffler altogether.

As for power gains, look for absolutely NOTHING. Maybe 1 or 2 horsepower if your lucky. If you want more sound AND added benefits, I'd recommend custom piping or a pre-made cat-back exhaust. Plenty available and prices are not too bad. Just remember, you pay for what you get.

Oh, and get used to the local police force becoming friends with you, they have a fondness for Imports with coffee cans.
