Default How can I keep SRI cool??

So i just ordered a generic Short Ram Intake for my s2k. Its ugly green with a K&N filter. Pretty basic aliminum piping. My question is how can i keep the pipe and the air flowing through it cooler? I know the more official K&N comes with a steel heat sheild. I plan on making one some how and also i wanted to either spray the tubing with ceramic, or a heat resistant coating.. Would something like header wrap work to keep the pipe cool? Let me know what you all do and think.

Thanks

i think it's more about the temperature of the air entering the pipe, than the air in pipe as it's only in there a very small time so it's hard to chill it. Concentrate on heat shielding from the engine block to keep hot air away from the intake entry

Ok, will do.. Thank you.. I started on a sheild made of foam thatt fit perfect but then realized it would melt from the inside-out even if it had heat resistant material on the outside. Guess i'm gonna need to use metal, my friend has a welder, maybe we can just go at like like that. That or look for a perfect shaped peice of hard plastic.. Hmmm

The stock intake might be better...

As far as my reply on your ebay catback question the intake should be fine it's an aluminum pipe all the same weather it's aem or generic ebay.. Just change the filter to a reputable brand you'll be fine.

thanks george.. Advice is appriciated, just picked up the car last week, very excited to start modding, but i think i'll take my time. I can tell the stock parts on the s2k are already top level.

all aluminum is not the same, the pricier ones COULD (not necessarily) have more resistance towards heatsoak.

Although you're probably better off with the stock air box gutted..It will keep the heat away effectively and more flow since there's no inside wall blocking the intake. I tried comparing a non gutted to a gutted air box you can feel the difference if you stick your hand in the opening and open the throttle you can feel all that air being sucked in.

Is the filter near the right headlight? Not sure on your AP1 but on the AP2 I cut out the fake scoop on the right side of the front bumper and sealed off the flat splash plate in front of the fender liner. At speed cool air is directed up to the engine bay opening by the horn. I did a temperature comparison with two thermometers between that spot and where a CAI filter would sit. Other than at a standstill, they were within 1-2 degrees of each other. I'm running a PRM intake, which is essentially a SRI.

You just wasted your money on more ricer parts... The factory intake on the S2000 is one of the best designs Honda has ever used on a production car. You will more then likely LOSE power from your POS intake. Put the stock one back on the car and get a high flow drop in filter. If you wanna go further search the” factory airbox mod” and/or get a snorkel.

If you want a decent power gain (relative) without spending $$$, and gaining a beautiful sound, pick up the K&N FiPK. It's a great piece really, I love my engine note at WOT, or the slightly more expensive comptech is good too (300-350$)

lol. Actually there is a comptech s/c on craigslist round here with 4k on it.. Just needs a fuel pump... I was thinking about lowballing him for $2,300 or something and just hangin on to it. Boost scares me tho, i've generally been a n/a fan. Minus my MazdaSpeed and WRXs of old, but they were built for boost and the WRX is soft as ****.

It honestly doesn't even sound like the same car, and it's my only mod. It's got a very deep growling sound at partial throttle, and at WOT it ****in screams

I recorded off my iphone, so please excuse the sloppy one handed shifts. My tires were in horrible shape, so there's nothing extravagant to watch but you can hear her humb. The last 10 seconds you hear me at about 75% throttle. It's not as loud as at WOT but you get the idea
