Question about gutted CRX.
I'm considering doing some gutting for my 90 CRX in the rear. Question is, when you take out the carpeting and storage compartment, can you simply put it back on or is it an irreversible thing? How many pounds do you actually shave off, like 50 lbs at the most? How much more when you take off the tar? Any pics?
all of the rear components including the carpeted sections, storage compartments and plastic panels weigh less than 15 pounds total. buy some performance parts before gutting the car.
My si is completely stripped, everything but the drivers seat, No carpet or anything. this includes the headliner, sunroof motor, wiper, radio, visors,EVERYTHING that wasn't needed. I love it and wouldn't turn back, but it is very noisy, you hear everything. It not for everybody but I don't mind listening to the exhaust note and I never have to take passengers anywhere. You could put everything back in if you decided to gut it and then didn't like it. Just a thought, everything you take out will tanke up a lot of space. It's amazing how much stuff is in a car and how much room it takes up when the interior is not in. Have alot of storage space. Goodluck
I never fill the tank more than a 1/4 unless I'm driving to point to get some races then I put just enough in to get there. No sense racing with a full tank. I never noticed a gas smell, but if I ever fill it up, I'll let you know
does your car smeel like gas after a fill up... mine does...
Wait a minute, your saying gutting the entire rear will only take out 15 lbs? That seems way too low. If that is the case, i'm not interested at all.

it cant be that heavy now..all it is is some peices of plastic..ive taken all mine out and put it bak together..dont notice a difference..just leave it all in there. at least it will look nice and clean. its not worth all the trouble of takin it out and puttin it bak in and plus it gets a lil noisy which gets annoying if its a daily driver
Wheel alone is alot, plus you got carpet, the tar, and the seat which are all the heavier pieces. The plastic stuff of course is not going to weight that much. Its way more then 15 pounds.

here's a thought, weight it before you throw it away. that will take the guessing and folklore out of it. maybe i'll go downstairs to my garage and weight the rear stuff if i feel like it later today.

[edit] just as a comarison, the entire AC system weighs 35lbs. down to the last bolt, inlcuding the compressor braket. my wheel/tyre combination is also 35lbs.

lets see how it is??
spare tire-maybe 15 pnds
jack and lever-5 pnds
speaker panels-1-2 pnds
all the tar togheter-3 pnds
the rest of the interior-20 pnds max!
even if u add all togheter u make around 45 total
40 pounds its not going to change anyhting..... u can get 45 pnds less with 3/4 of a gas tank less..... do u notice changes on ur ET's after that?? NO!
of course every pnds makes a difference, .... BUT that's on a strictly drag car only!..... on a daily driver, or even casual street race car..... its not worthed.... then why have a car that looks all nasty in the inside and that its not good for carrying friends or even ur gf around.... u dont wanna just drive the car around to race people... its the car u use to chill around and do the rest of the stuff we do daily....we all wanna make our cars faster, not uglier and less functional.....
of course every pnds makes a difference
Drive your car with only your self, go fast, go around corners sharply. Now after you are done, pile in some people, or even heavy bricks to simulate people. Now try to go fast, and sharply around cornors. You will notice a difference, trust me.
If you plan on taking the AC out, then with the rear stripped that might be a close 80 pounds assuming the rear is around 50 lbs. If you stop doing weight reductions with just the rear, then you will not notice the difference. Its a continuous process, you will have to reduce more weight.

If you want a car the is stripped and light, just buy an HF or STD and leave it as is.
do yourself a favor and just leave your interior..your car will look ghetto with it gutted out...i laugh when people drive around with gutted interior on the street thinking that it makes their car a race car. ive never noticed a diffence in my timeslips gutted or not gutted..if u a strictly drag car then lighten anything u can..but for daily comfort, reliablity, and appearance..leave it all in there
we all wanna make our cars faster, not uglier and less functional.....
but mine looks better and fits more junk to haul around.

entire back seats
all carpet
all sound deadening tar
all plastic
headliner
rear and front wipers and motors
all underside platics
