Default Oil Light

I have freshly built turbo B16 (500miles). When I crank the car in the morning or when it has been sitting for more than a few days the oil light stays one for about 7-10 secs, but then goes up between 60-80psi. I am getting great oil pressure when the car is running/driving. When I turn the car off for like 15 mins to an hour the light stays on for about 5 secs. I am running a -4an feed line, I have oil squirters, and using 10w-30 oil.

*UPDATE: I plugged the squirters which reduced the time to 3-5 seconds on a cold startup. Next I changed the oil pump and pick up tube gasket and the light remains for the same amount of time.

Is this hurting my engine, not having pressure during start-up?

I am switching to vr1 20w-50 and taking off the oil pan to check the pickup and gasket.

I dont know about 20-50.
It doesnt get that cold down here to use that unless you have bearing noise.
Do you have an oil pressure gauge installed?

I do have a gauge installed. The oil pressure is great once the car is running, it is just at start up where it takes about ten seconds for the oil light to go off then it goes up to like 80-85 on the oil gauge.

The pump is new.

The block was built by laskey and they did a great job, but when I pulled the oil pan pick up tube I noticed that there was not a gasket between the pick up and pump. At first I didn't think one went there, but now that I have been reading I see that there needs to be a paper gasket there. Well I ordered one from honda and will be installing saturday. I will let yall know what happens.

I hope this fixes this issue and that I have not caused any damage.

Well I took the oil pan off and the pick up looks clean and there was a paper gasket where the pickup bolts up. So I don't know what it could be. I ordered GEM oil squirter plugs that will be in tuesday, maybe that will help a little.

Well I installed the oil plugs, put a new paper gasket, and change the oil to VR1 20w-50. So far so good. I will start the car tomorrow morning and let you know how the oil light goes.

I started this car this morning and the oil light was on for 3-5 seconds, which is less than before. Once the light went off the oil pressure went up to 75-80psi. I would like to know if this is affecting my engine?

Yeah, I have talked to mike and he is working with me. I have my -4an oil feed line coming from the ls/vtec port of the Golden Eagle sandwich plate and the other port which is normally for the turbo feed line going to my oil pressure gauge. -12an from the s362 topmount going to the pan.

If I built the engine, there would have been a gasket between the pick up and pump. I just wanted to make that clear...even though I see you said there was one after you saw it. When we do full engine builds a new oil pump is always installed. Maybe this engine was previously built by me and rebuilt? Do you have the blue print sheet that I provide with the engines?

I got the sheet when I bought the engine from a buddy of mine, its around here somewhere. I am the one who directed him to get the engine built from you. He ended up getting a bike, which is why I bought the short block from him.

You did a great job putting this engine together and I plan on getting another one. Maybe my problem could be in the head??

Just had this same problem. Except my oil pressure wouldnt go passed 25psi. Had to get a new pump. Im thinking a bad batch of oil pumps went out. When you took off the pick up was there any oil in it?
