Default 4th gear issue

DC Integra with ITR transmission.

It has no problem going into 4th gear, but once it is engaged it makes a not so pleasant sound. It almost sounds as if the selector fork is rubbing against the teeth on the gear itself. Whether this is possible or not is beyond me for now but just wondering if anybody else has had a similar issue in this gear or any other for that matter. I will be pulling the transmission out and cracking it open this week to inspect. This is my first Honda transmission tear down and I am seeking some help on what to look for.

Thanks!

manual transmissions are basic, aside from clearances. if you can handle that go for it. the hardest part was dropping the mainshaft bearing retainer clip...might not be the name of it, theres a good thread on here, made it real easy for me when i took apart the donor tranny

I have watched the Evans Tuning Videos and also read the write up by Honda Bull.

Seems pretty easy. Much easier than the VW trannies that I have torn apart.

I will report back what I find later this week or maybe next week. Depends on when I am able to work on it.

Well I pulled the tranny out this morning before work/school and then cracked it open tonight. Wow that was easy. It only took me like 15 minutes including setting up my temporary work station. Here is what I found:

3 teeth missing from the 4th gear on the countershaft. Everything else looks okay to me. I have never had any grinds in any gear etc. Luckily all 3 teeth were collected neatly on the magnet at the bottom of the casing.

This is ending up to be a cheap fix and I am pretty excited to finish it. I am bringing the countershaft into school with me to replace the gear. I am currently going to a wind turbine tech school and I am now in the gearbox section. Such perfect timing!
