98+ Swapped into GsR
Okay, so I just recently bought a 98+ JDM ITR Motor from Hmotorsonline and gonna drop it into my 2000 GsR... and I'm wondering if I can just drop it in and simply start it up or if I have to do some work to it. I was told that I have to rewire some of the wiring harness since in Japan, the steering column is on the right side. Please help me if you can in answering my problems, thanks......
what year is the acura type r motor?I know you said 98+.Since you have a vtec harness you'll be fine.. only problem you might need a jumper harness obd2b to obd2a. Your gsr is a obd2b car so you need that. now if the motor is a 00 itr then your fine where you at. that is my opinion

trying to remember this one. if i remember right you use the 2b to 2a jumper on the ecu and keep your existing gsr harness in the engine bay. the reason being that once you convert the wires via the harness you don't want to screw it up by using the obd2a jdm engine harness. you'll also have to extend 2 wires. the coolant temp sensor in the side of the head and the air temp sensor in the intake manifold if i remember right. it's been nearly 2 years since i've done a jdm itr swap so my memory is slightly fuzzy
Thanks, well my old wiring harness is pretty shot so I'm gonna have to purchase another one that is in better shape. Does anyone know if my stock cat will bolt right on to the JDM header? If not, what is the correct way to go about this? I will be installing a Mugen Twin Loop w/ the b-pipe on my car once the swap is done.....

You say your harness is shot, like you have jacked up wires or its just old and you want to replace it??
Luckily this swap your doing is pretty straight forward the only thing i could think you might need is a jumper harness on the ECU. Other than that this is about as straight forward as it gets. You wont have secondary butterflies anymore so those will be gone everything else should plug up. You may have to extend a couple of wires do to the fact that your not going to have the funky GSR manifold anymore but thats easy people have to do that all the time when putting on a Skunk2 mani on their GSR. I would check on the year model that Hmotors is sending you just so you have eveything ready. In my experience Hmotors is pretty good so just give him a call make sure and good to go. Drop this thing in and extend the couple of wires you need to and have fun.....
Also unless you or someone else has hacked into your harness at some point in time there should be no need to replace it. It should be fine. Save the money and use it to get a magnaflow cat or something as mentioned ^ by idrivesideways.

Alright, so I got the motor from HmotorsOnline and turns out that it is a 98 itr. I'm gonna need to run this motor in my car as an obd2 for inspection. My buddies came over and we pulled out my old motor and I had to put in the wiring harness that I bought. We have also used my crank sensor from my gsr motor and slapped it onto my 98 itr. All of the sensors seem to be in place and well but when we dropped it in the car and tried to start it up... as soon as it would catch it would automatically die. I have not gotten the obd2b to obd2a jumper harness yet so I'm not yet running my p73 ecu so as of now we are trying my stock 2000 p72 ecu and another p72 ecu that is an obd1. There are a few check engine light codes with the obd1 ecu that are CEL's 3 and 10 which are the map sensor and the IAT if I'm correct. With the obd2 ecu, all we are getting is the CEL code 10. We've even tried to swap out the map sensor with another one, we've rechecked timing and it's good. Really don't know what to do next so if you guys have had an experience like this or know something, anything really... that would be great if you guys can help, thanks.....
Oh and I forgot, exactly which two wires are you guys talking about that we need to extend... we've done the IAT and the one under the vtec solenoid.....
is there any chance you're a tooth off on the timing belt since you switched oil pumps when you added the cfs?
The timing on the motor is fine... we checked out the CELs on the obd2 p72 ecu with a obd2 scanner and it is saying (code p0112 intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit low). Could one of my wires be loose or something?
Yes that sounds like a crimped wire! or you used a small gauge wire. look over the extended wire and find the crimp or break, did the swap come with the stock itr ecu? im not sure if the p72 is a itr ecu, but if your using a gsr ecu it wont run correct and may be why it wont run, check all the vacume lines it sounds like its diying cause of a open vac port or leak, check the vac. line that goes to the fuel pressure regulator, and make sure the map and iat sensor isnt mixed or switched around if it is it wont run.
Okay, so my buddies and I have looked around the car one more time just to make sure that there isn't anything that we have missed. Since my CEL says that the IAT circuit is low or maybe a faulty sensor I took out the IAT from the intake manifold and sure enough, it was burnt... I took another sensor from my gsr and put it in and that one got burnt too! Do you guys know what can cause this burning of the IAT sensors?
there are issues with your wiring. sounds like you have a short where you did the extension and or somewhere between the iat and ecu.
also, you aren't using a p72 ecu are you? it better be a p73

When I first bought my car, i didn't pay any attention to the ecu wiring harness. After several months of owning the car, turns out that the ecu wiring harness has been hacked into and they did a pretty crappy job of piecing it back together. That might be why it is burning up my IAT sensors too (burned 2 sensors back to back) and why I have the CEL. So I this weekend, I'm gonna have to sauder the wires and hopefully that might be the problem... my obd2b to obd2a wiring harness has came in too so i pray it will work.....
