zc dohc help please!
Okay, we just installed a ZC DOHC in my friends 88 crx si and it has a bearing or something screwed up, it's making hella knocking noise.
Anyway, does this head bolt to a d16a6.
I'm screwed, please help.

No, it will not bolt on to the a6 bottom. DOHC ZC=DOHC, D16a6=SOHC.
Describe the noise a little more. Is it doing it at idle, revving, cruising? Where did you get the engine from and any kind of warranty?

well, the fact that it bolts to d series trannys and such kinda threw me off, i don't know much about the motor.
Anyway, It's cool at idle, but it vibrates a bit too much, and then when you tap the throttle it knocks like crazy and cuts off.
I bought it from some dude in another town, heard about the motor on a message board, we had to drive of 500 miles round trip to get this thing and now...
But for $250 for the motor, it was a risk anyway.
Dude, i know i've heard about the ZC DOHC head bolting to single cam blocks.

Hrmm.. Yeah, check the timing on it. I know of the SOHC ZC bolting, but haven't seen a DOHC bolt on to the a6 block.
Can anyone correct me on this?

push it around in the driveway? I'm curious as to what that will acomplish.
Not really, you can drop oil pan and tap on the rod caps and see if they move.
Sure enough, we tore it down last night, the number 1 was shaking like crazy. Took it out, the bearing looked like a gum rapper. Metal shards everywhere. The crank was all scared up.
What a nightmare, but hey, we pulled the motor back out in 30 minutes with hand tools!

You should change ALL the bearings while you are in there. I would also recomend a new oil pickup as well. You probably have bearing shavings all throughout the engine, too. When you get it running again change the oil very soon after.
Yes, but you can't use DOHC D series head internals on an SOHC. Otherwise, sure, swap D series lower end parts around. I hear you can get some wicked rod ratios (for a D series) using a 1.5 crank, 1.6 rods, and some pistons (forget which ones)...
i dont really care how many apples are in the shadey tree. it seems i have the crank your in need of. if you can sort all of the lies out you might be able to get it for free. if not good luck!

Use an A6 crank.
