probs with my gsr
hey what would cause my car to cut out right before VTEC crossover. it only does it every once in awhile and also it was a auto and the guy i got it off of converted it to 5speed and i was wondering if it could be the wiring
If the motor cuts out before Vtec then it is dying at a specific RPM, probably unrelated to Vtec. If it cuts out at the Vtec enagement point then that's a different story.
It's dying when the Vtec engages. Start by making sure your CEL is working and that there isn't a code. Next, check the air and fuel filters. If there's a restriction preventing the extra air or fuel from getting in when the Vtec engages then it could cause the car to stall. You'll want to check your valve and ignition timing. The ECU advances the timing when the Vtec hits so a timing problem can get worse at that time. Check the spark plugs for signs of what's going on and see if one or more look worse than the others. Check the oil then change the oil and filter if it is black. Some other checks you can perform if you don't find anything include testing the fuel pressure with and without the regulator vacuum hose attached, visually checking the spark at all four wires and testing the oil pressure.
