swap to h23 five speed.
im new at this thing and im wanting to put an h23 five speed in my 99 accord. will this be a direct bolt on? i no i have to run the slave cylinder and linkage and what not. will this make the car faster in the low end? its got the f23a1. any tips and help would be great.
now do i have to switch out ecu to a manual h23? i read somewhere that a guy ran a h23 five speed and got his car to run a 15.1. that pretty quick for a stock four cylinder car. have you found a write up to do the swap?
if your only swapping the tranny then no you don't need an H23 ECU. It's just like swapping an F23 tranny with another F23 tranny. Everything is the exact same only difference is the gearing, and the speed sensor looks different, but it plugs in and works perfectly fine.

I think it would be a better idea to get all the parts in order first before tackling the project. The costs and work required is fairly straight forward for people who have done it or seen it before, but if you're taking it one part and one step at a time, you're going to be a bit overwhelmed by costs and time invested.
here's what I think is all you need, but I may have left a few things out because it's been awhile since I've ripped this swap out of a prelude. I'm listing it in order from the pedal to the transmission (more-or-less)
you will need
- pedals (auto pedals are different)
- master cylinder + master cylinder resorvoir
- hard hydraulic lines (can be substituted with SSbraided lines and fittings)
- slave cylinder
- transmission
- clutch disk, pressure plate, flywheel, and throw-out bearing
- starter
- shift cables
- shifter assembly
- shiftknob
- ECU
- axles
- half-shaft
There's probably a couple other things I missed but that should be the majority of it. I think the biggest pain in the *** for the swap is perfectly aligning the master cylinder with the clutch pedal through the firewall. You have to make sure that the master cylinder is fully functional or you will either wear out your clutch, or the clutch won't engage at all. Everything else is fairly straight forward and you can get a good idea from the helm's manual

The best thing to due is to buy a totaled 5speed for cheap then just take everything from it. I did the swap to my 94 accord and I had bought a totaled 95 dx 5speed for 250. Suggestion though: If not anything else, use a brand new clutch master cylinder because once you finished dealing with the pedals, you'll NEVER want to deal with them again.
hey my name is kevin and if i am not mistaken, you are friends of a chris with a 01 v6 accord.
well he told me you where looking for a h23 trans and possible some one to swap it.
well i have a h22 trans (4thgen m2f4) i could sell you. it works and is in my car right now.
if you want me to swap it for you, get all the little parts and i can do the swap as well, for a small fee of course
about the h22 auto tran idea, swapping one auto tranny to another would be a total waste of your time. gains would be un-noticeable at best :/
as for 1/4 mile times: friends stock 5thgen prelude 5sp=15.4sec
seen a stock 5thgen prelude auto=19sec (was doing consistent 20sec) maybe it was just the car
if you have any questions you can ask chris and he'll relay it to me.
