headlights affecting cruise control
hey folks. my wife's 1994 accord is doing something weird. whenever the headlights are turned on, the cruise control turns off and can't be used. It just started recently. Any ideas?
Well gosh this is a useful post.
OP, are you having any CEL's ?
Last time you did maintenance? (battery/belts/etc?)
What happens if you flash your highs?
Have you checked fuses?
That should get you started that would rule out any *simple* issues.

battery and cables checked out fine
i'll have her try flashing the headlights when i get back home this weekend
all fuses look good.
thanks for the help, i appreciate it. this was something totally unexpected and i just can't figure out how to two are connected
Hmm, other things to look at would be to see if there are any wires out of place - maybe they piggy backed the headlight relay with the cruise control for some reason? (fuse box)
i had my wife try flashing the brights when the cruise control was on and nothing happened.
at first, i thought it might have to do with something in the steering column controls only since the lights and controls for the cruise all end up through there. however, we noticed that the light on the actual cruise control button (on the dash near the door) turns off when turning on the headlights. kinda odd. it kills the whole system.

Those headlight relays should be relatively easy and cheap to find in a junkyard - you may want to try swapping them to see what happens.
Also do the corner lights affect it?
yeah they do. i'll check the local salvage yards for a few of the relays and see if they make a difference
Not sure about the 94 accord, but in my 98, the cruise control switch is right next to the fog light control switch. So I'd see if there are any weird connections or loose wires there, and check in the fuse box/engine bay for anything out of the ordinary.
