Default best size throttle body for all motor ls vtec?

so here is my motor in my eg hatch, mild build for a daily drive that has to get me to work with good mpg:

1.8 b18 integra ls bottom end with all the goodies (ARP bolts, etc)
P30 pistons (get 250 across the board in compression test)
b16 head with b16 springs
stock gsr cams
dented up hytech replica header
2.5 inch exhaust with magnaflow muffler and 2.5" high flow cat
AEM v2 intake
10lb flywheel
STOCK b16 intake manifold and throttle body
stock injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump

So I'm upgrading my intake stuff before I get it tuned and decided on the blox manifold so I can pass it off as stock

do you think an upgraded throttle body is worthwhile?
If so what size?
I think the stock one on there now is 58mm or 60mm and I see I can get a 68mm or 70mm omni power throttle body for $100 or probably pick up a used one for the same price so leaning towards the omni power one.
you think 68-70mm is too much for this setup?

(don't want anything shiny either so I don't get hassled by cops.)

thanks for your help

maybe just picking up a 62mm h22 throttle body is a good/cheap option assuming it just bolts on there?

how much do you think it would help though? I don't really want to spend $150 if it is only gonna get me 1-2hp right at the top end and maybe lose 1-2hp in the bottom/midrange.

what do you run on your car?

whatever you do don't purchase a gsr tb, you'll need the cable and bracket

thanks guys, both of those comments are super helpful. any suggestions on what size would be appropriate? at some point I'll go with some ctr cams but for now just stock gsr as I don't want to run too high of rpm on this ls vtec bottom end.

thanks

i say 65 if you can find one cheap or omni 68 would be fine. your only going to have as much air going in via the bore of your manifold anyway. i think blox is 64 or 65.

cool guys, then for $100 I think I'll probably just grab the 68mm omni power unless I find a good deal on the 65mm, then if/when I go B20 vtec I'll still be good

I figure I've got a 60mm on there now and if the honda engineers thought the type R needed a 62mm then I'll probably need even a little more when I upgrade cams later on.

thanks, anyone have or have seen any dyno sheets showing benefit of swapping throttle body? I've been looking for ages and can't find one

id go with a 65mm! that was my plan when i decided to go with ctr cams for my b20vtec but i came up on some toda c's thats why i decided to sell my t/b but i think 62mm or 65mm would work for your setup imo!.

thanks guys, I've seen some dyno charts on B20 vtecs showing a big gain going from 62mm to 68mm and 70mm so I'd imagine it will be worthwhile going from 60mm, can't really hurt right? I'm a little worried about running an aftermarket throttle body given all the horror stories I've heard but to get a 65mm I'd have to first go buy an itr tb and then pay another $100 to have it bored, so just not going to pay like $200+ after shipping and all that.

hey whats up i also have the same set up and was was thinking of using BLOX 68mm but heard that sometime its better to port the skunk2 IM 2-4mm more that what your TB is going to be, i heard this increase the speed of airflow... does anybody know why or has anybody tried it?????

yeah, always best to port the intake manifold a little bigger than the throttle body and to clean up any casting imperfections while you're in there. please don't jack my thread though.

your best bet imho is a professional products 65 (i think it was or might be 68) as they are factory tapered and dont stick.

they are only 150ish shipped

thanks Killer, your ls vtec is what my motor wants to be when it grows up, nice build man!

anyone seen a dyno where they tested a bigger than stock throttle body though? I know the type R came with a 62mm so obviously when pushing more horsepower than a stock gsr a bigger tb is important but I've been searching like crazy and can't find an all motor setup with a dyno test of a larger throttle body...

I think an ITR TB should be perfect for your setup.

I think 68 mm is too big for your setup. Might show more peak hp but I'm sure the car will be slower. If the b18c and h22 motors have 62mm I dont see why you would need a bigger throttle body than that, you have gsr cams and b16 head, which flows less than a type-R or h22 head. Compression doesn't matter. I would send your b16 tb to maxbore to get it tappered and bored to 64mm.

With a blox intake manifold and 68mm tb the car will be weak at low rpm with those cams.

I'm pretty sure the throttle body I have is only 58mm though so maxbore could only take it to 62mm and I'd prefer to go a little larger so down the road when I put in some more aggressive cams I will still be ok. I agree and think it is likely that 68mm is too big but does anyone have a dyno chart or any information like that to back it up? the only thing I found was on a B20 vtec car with some pretty big cams in it that gained like 6whp above 5k rpm when going from 60mm to 68mm but would really prefer to see this test done on a b16 or b18 as the b20 was putting out much more power than I am.

so still can't find dyno sheets but some interesting info I didn't know. Probably not new to you guys here but new to me.

so obviously the integra type R has 200hp and a 62mm throttle body

and the FD2 civic type R in Japan 222hp in Japan and came with a 64mm throttle body, TODA says opening that up and radiusing it down to 66.5mm is worth 7hp also
http://www.maxpower.co.uk/article.asp?asset=10246&p=1

so just by judging what the honda engineers used, and I'm sure they tested this extensively since larger or smaller tb costs the same to make it would seem that a 65mm is best overall for my application.

now we pretty much already knew that so my other question of how much hp this will gain me is still unanswered.

If anyone has ANY dyno sheets of a B series with different throttle bodies on there I would very much appreciate it. If a 65mm throttle body will pick me up 1-2hp or something then not worth my time/money.

thanks!

I guess it's a tough choice. The k20 isnt really a reference since their type-R head and cams flow like a ported B series vtec head, not sure how much more agressive the cams are. I think you should try both if you can. Gains you will see will be anywhere from 1-4 whp, but the loss at lower rpms can suck if not properly matched to the setup.
