Default 1996 Accord DX changed the VSS sensor Still not worky Speedo

Hello i changed the VSS on my 1996 Auto Accord DX the CEL turn'd off, But the odometer and speedo still dont work? Could it be the other sensor with the gear on it that goes into the transmission or is the cluster itself? Need help to know how fast i am going.

Thanks,
MIKE

Have you checked both fuse boxes?

No i haven't but the weirdest thing happened when i went for a ride the speedo and odometer started to work then parked the car to where i was going. Then come out again and went on my way and bam not working again? I honestly thing its the other sensor on the transmission with the shaft and gear on the end? maybe its not catching?

That sounds like it could be a sensor, yes.

I've never had an issue with sensors - my problem was a single blown fuse in the interior fuse box and my entire gauge cluster went out, the alarm, the radio and the reverse lights.

Not sure where it is but make sure that the ground is good on the sensor. I would also take a look at the fuses, I highly doubt its a bad fuse but a fuse is a lot cheaper to replace than any sensor (and free to check with a DMM.)

It's the circuit board on the back of the speedometer thats bad...It's a very common problem. The best thing to do is get a gauge cluster from a junk yard and either A: change the circuit board on the back of the speedo, B: just change the whole speedo (but the miles will be wrong) or C: just change the whole gauge cluster (miles will be wrong. try to get it from another DX Auto)

Yeah something is very wierd if the car is running and sitting it will work if you let it sit there and go for a drive. But if you start and leave it will just sit at zero and not move at all? But after i did the VSS change the CEL went off Thats what i'm happy about just want the speedo and odometer to work to lol.

Yeah it's wierd when it happens. My uncle just bought a 95 Accord not to long ago and it had the same problem. The speedo would work only when it wanted to. So I changed out the whole gauge cluster for him and he hasn't had a problem since.

Ditto on the printed circuit board in the gauge cluster. If the CEL stays off and cruise control works, then the VSS is OK. My 93 wagon had speedo/odo issues; there were two areas of corrosion (ugly black areas) on the circuit board, one of which I was able to identify as affecting the speedo/odo circuit. Installed a non-corroded board from a sedan in the cluster (keeping the same odometer). Had to install the 130 mph speedo from the sedan because the 140 speedo from the wagon didn't read correctly with the sedan board (odo was OK).

I just bought a 96 Accord and my speedometer and odometer dont work as well, nor does my cruise. But I was reading through the posts on here and I don't have a CEL light on? I know absolutely nothing about cars, just that I would like for my speedometer to work I was curious if whomever started this post ever got theirs to and what did they do to make it work. And if it is a fuse, where is that fuse located?

First get a new cruise control switch. if the cruise switch is bad, then the speedo won't work either.
