Default Fitting Slicks on 91 CRX SI

Hello, I have a 91 crx si and want to run 24.5 x 8.5 x 13 m&h slicks. I ordered some 13x8" wheels with a 5 inch backspace. Well I just remeasured and it appears they may rub on the upper balljoint nut area. Has anyone mounted similar wheels slicks on there crx? Should I try to change my order to 4" backspace?

those should have slightly (7mm) more inner clearance than lensos so i think you will be just fine

But will that affect how close the tire sits to the knuckle area. Like I said its the upper balljoint castlenut area where the upper ball joint attaches to the knuckle that looks like it may be an issue with tire clearnce.

sorry if i was unclear. what i was getting at is that i see plenty of crx's on lensos, which have a higher backspace and sit closer to the inner suspension (knuckle & uca). your wheels should have more clearance to those components

I know the wheels will clear just fine. It's the tires I'm concerned with. But I will assume your saying since the wheels will have more clearance, so should the tires. BUT....

7mm is about a 1/4 inch. That extra amount on the lensos is the thickness of the rim lip. Yes the Lenso wheels sit back farther because they have about 1/4 in. thicker bead lip than my steel wheels, but the tire still beads up at the 5' backspace so I dont think it will make a difference on TIRE clearance. correct me if im wrong.

I hope I dont need wheel spacers. They are just kinda cheezy. do a lot of guys run them?

yeah i guess 1/4" isnt much of a difference but even still i think you will be ok. dont be afraid of spacers, they do their job and then can get taken off when you leave the track. i run 5mm spacers on my drag wheels for brake caliper clearance (15" 5-lug though)

me and all the crxs in my class run lenzos and have to clearance issues
we have tires sizes from 22's to 24.5 by 9s have clear you should not have a problem if a slight clearance is needed a small wheel spacer is fine will not hurt anything
when using beadlockers on the lenzo a spacer is need in the cases i have seen and they have not had problems
youll be fine

Good to hear. I'll know within a week if they will clear or not. At most a 1/4" spacer is prolly all I will need. Should be fine it seems.

Just curious why when using beadlocks on the lenzo wheels the spacer is needed?

with the beadlock you run the new bolt on lip and bolts stick out father which make clearance tighter only a small one is need that i have seen

I hate it when nobody updates a thread with the final outcome. So I will finish up.

The 13 inch diamond racing wheel w/ 5 inch backspace fit perfect. The 24.5x8.5x13 fit great with plenty of room to spare. I could probably go another size up in the future if needed. So it all worked out good. As far as fender clearance ect. it should be fine after I adjust my coilovers.

There, I feel better now.

Sorry, I didn't understand your original one worded question without the question mark.
It is up on jackstands right now as I'm working on other areas of the car. I will possibly post some pictures when I'm finished.

It wasnt a question. More of a request or demand, which doesnt require a question mark.

No biggie, I have a few friends with similar wheels, just wanted to see what your backspacing looked like.
