Brake upgrades? Spoon/Wilwood
Seeing what is recommended for a front brake upgrade. I was looking at the 6 pot wilwood kit with 12.2" rotor. Anyone running this kit? If so can you use OEM style pads? Or do you have to stick with Wilwood pads?
Any other recomendations besides these 2? I am running 16" wheels in 35 offest so it should clear most calipers. Would prefer aluminium calipers to save a bit of weight. Price range is about $1000.

I have the Wilwood kit and I think your offset is too small for this kit. I have to check to see what mine is but I think it's between 40 and 45.
You can't use stock pads but Wilwood offers different pad options.
If I did it again, I'd get the Spoon kit. Just a personal preference not anything to do with how they perform.

What I meant is are the Wilwood pads an OEM size of some other car? I assume they are bigger than OEM ITR ones of course. I just don't want to be limited to 1 brand of brake pads. Some kits use 350z pads or Porsche etc...

I recently found out that oem brakes are more than enough. I put some hawk HP+ pads and I can lock my tires if i try hard enough. I can't imagine any more breaking power :nervous:
Edit: Spoons are good and relatively cheap compared to big break upgrades but I only have experience with them on an s2000.

I run the Spoon calipers and will do it over and over again. You can't beat the compatibility of OEM rotor and pads, and at the same time offer more fluid volume, modulation, heat dissippitation, and lighter weight.
There's nothing wrong with the stock brakes either, even for track driving. So if budget allows, go for it.

Same here. With warm spec VR pads I can hit instant ABS at about 70mph. It'll wake you up if you are not ready for it.

And all cars can lockup the wheels....
I find braking force is never a problem if you change to performance pads, the heating is the issue

Locking the brakes or not has a lot to do with what tires you use and how you apply brake pressure, not necessarily only the brake force.

I had Spoon calipers on my street ITR that I tracked very often, but was forced to run OEM calipers on the race car because of the class rules. Oh man I missed the Spoon calipers so much.
Then couple years later they changed the rules to allow brake upgrades so I immediately got a set of Spoons for the race car. No hesitation and no regret.
