Ecu question, possibly a problem
A quick intro on my car, 88 hf, y8 swapped, running obd1 off a p28.
The issue: my p28 doesn't show a check engine light when i turn the key before i start the car. There is no signs of a CEL existing with this ecu. I plugged in 3 different p06 ecu's and one from my buddys crx and they all show the CEL before the car starts and when running (tranny sensor due to ecu being auto). It's only with this p28 that it shows not a single sign of a CEL at all. The main answers i have been getting are: ecu is bad and it may be chipped. The car runs perfect not a single thing wrong with it (that i know of, hell my vtec may not engage and i wouldn't know), so that tells me the ECU isn't bad. Now onto the it may be chipped; how would i be able to figure this out? Thanks in advance for any help

I figured it wasnt chipped. Hmmm maybe theres just something wrong with it. I honestly dont think my vtec engages because my motor falls face first in the 4k+ rpm range, unless my timing is retarded to **** or perhaps its being choked going from the y8 manofold/downpipe to the stock hf (1.5 inch i think) piping

hmmm. well that could definitely restrict it a good bit.
run a test wire to the vtec solenoid wire at the ecu and see if a multimeter or test light will read +12v when you're in the vtec rpm range.

I will give that a shot tomorrow, if it's not engaging then that might be my ballsless motor issue, if it is engaging im gonna time it and run open header to see if it is indeed a restriction problem
I don't think you'll see much of a restriction issue. If vtec wasn't working it shouldn't really fall on it's face. In my experience exhaust noise just kind of levels out and so does power/acceleration.
