How to tell if car is overheating without gauge
okay i just swaped a jdm gsr in my 96 coupe dx and i was jus wondering if there is any other way to tell if my car is overheating cause my temp gauge does not work thank yall in advance
Smell and performance. As the coolant overheats you'll get the strong burnt, sweet smell inside the car. The car will also run noticably run worse. Very sluggish.
X 1million.
Fix the gauge man, There's a single wire sensor that screws into the head below the Distributor. The connector that slides onto the sensor is known to sometimes get brittle and break off, if that happens the gauge will always read Cold. Might not be the problem but its a good place to start.
Like starion said, the engine will run sluggish if it gets to hot and usually you will smell coolant, but by then it might be to late.

I would just look at my scangauge and get the exact temperature from the digital readout lol.
Or, I'd fix my gauge.
If you think it's overheating, you need to figure it out right away. It's very very not good to run an aluminum engine hot.
