Default Can exhaust go out the right side on a CRX?

I had a custom 2.25" exhaust done recently on my B16A 90' CRX and it sure looks like there's a lot of unnecessary bends. You know, where the pipe comes down the right side, then turns sharply around the rear right side wheel, then turns again and exits through the muffler. Wouldn't it just be easier to relocate the muffler over to the right side and eliminate all of that extra piping? Is there anything that would prevent this?

I've always wondered the same thing. I will be getting my exhaust redone in two weeks and I'd like to get this done. Anybody?

I'm sure the Honda peeps did that for a reason...maybe torque? But I've seen pics of exhaust moved to the right...

the 5-zigen axle back for the CRX comes out on the right side...and I've seen it done that way with other exhausts...I'm not totally sure as for the actual functionality of it...but I am sure it won't have a negative effect on the power...most people stick with stock just because it's easier a lot of times because that's how most cat-backs are made...and out the right side looks funny.

Side pipes would be dope.. For some cool strait pipege. But do you guys mean for the exhuast to come out on the left, as in left rear of the car. Cause if you put it on the right (as in making it come strait out from the passenger side) then you would have to cut the bumper like the original left side cut is. then you would have 2 cuts...i hope someone gets that lol.

Doesn't anyone think the increased exhaust flow from there being two fewer bends would increase HP?

I think that Honda put it on the driver's side for a reason... something about running too close to the fuel lines and gas tank. Aside from it looking ridiculous, as long as you have large mandrel bends there will be little loss in power.

What I have always thought would be easier than cutting the bumper on the right would be to still have it come out on the left but have it run in front of the gas tank down the left side in stead of the passenger side.

Honda made it come out on the Left Side to be able to fit the Big Cheap Muffler under the car...5 Zigen did it the right way.

Are you guys talking about putting the muffler out like under the drivers door?

custom 3" pipes with 3" cat. a traight exhaust flows better. some race exhaust have bends that goes below the controll arm to reduce the bends. the hardest part is finding an exhaust short enought to fit, cant be more than 12" long. i'm using edelbrock 3" rebuildable race muffler. it's only 11" long.

IMO I don't like havenig the exhaust on the pass side only becuase there is that cut out on the driver side.

You are not going to gain a miracle amount of HP by doing something different with less bends, more then likely it will just only get louder. If you want more HP then bolt some on to your engine. Just my opinion though.

k my turn now!
have u ever disconected the rear section of the car and run it?? the engine has a better acceleration after 4000.... it revs a hell lot quicker than with the rear section...... anyway..... like u say theres 2 90 deg bends wich increases backpressure..... if u take it to the right u might feel a wuicker accelerration of the car... it will not reduce back pressure if u keep a cat and resonator..... in this case get them replaced.... or u can do like a lot of poeple have done and take it diagonally..... this its done so u can still use the whole on the bumper and to reduce the angles of the rear section part of the exhaust.... wich withoiut the 90 deg bends and with a smoother curve the car will gain more power and reduce the piping lenght...... at least thats why i am doing it tho........

My 2nd CRX had dual 4" exhaust when I first got it. Crappiest thing I have ever heard. I got rid of it and had one coming out the right side. Sounded pretty good, but a little loud w/ 2.25", test pipe, and mandral bends:

i love the sound of my car. very deep and loud after vtec, but i have cat and turbo. i think it would be too loud for NA.

Maybe we could get a poll going?

For passenger side exhaust -OR- Against it

And why or why not?
