Does putting an automatic vehicle in neutral ruin the transmission?
I drive an automatic and everytime I'm on idle (mostly at stop lights), I have a habit of just putting it in neutral instead of D3. Will this wear out my transmission quicker if I keep doing this?
Also to save gas so it doesn't burn anything while waiting on D.

I would think it would be better, since the engine isn't fighting the brakes while sitting there. I often do this in our Corolla if I have to sit more than a few seconds, because my foot gets tired holding the car stopped with the brake pedal. So I shift to neutral and keep my foot on the brakes, but without pushing as hard.
I would think there shouldn't be a problem but I read on sites on how to save gas and they save to go in Neutral while waiting at lights to save gas.
When I drive an auto which isn't that often I do that and have never had any problems. I have actually heard before that putting the auto tranny in neutral while stopped helps keep the transmission oil cooler. Only what I have heard though.
