Alright my cousin drives a 99 ls and he asked me what are some good suspensions to have for a daily driver. I have tokico illuminas "if thats how you spell it" with some springs on there. Not sure what they are, just blue in color
"bought it that way" and he likes the way my car rides. So im wondering what other people like as a reference for something smooth and not so stiff for a daily driver. I told him to get ground control coilovers so he wouldnt have to cut any springs but he's still not sure.. Any recommendations on any good brand that you guys like would be great? thanks in advance

is there a point to this thread or do you just want a lot of random opinions? the best cheap shock now is the koni str.t. springs are a personal choice. the tein h tech is a great one as one other guy mentions above. not quite sure why tein calls them luxury springs. they are actually stiffer than oem itr by around 15%
Tokico blues with ground control with off the shelf spring rates is by far the best ride if you want to be more than 2" low. I have had pretty much every popular strut/ spring and coilover combo and this setup is the best for a smooth, semi low ride.
My vote would be for Koni STR-T dampers and either Ground Control springs or something like H&R Sport/Eibach Sport springs would be a good, affordable solution.
I would search around the Suspension forum to see what people are running and how they like it though...there are already a lot of opinions out there and asking what you did will just result in a lot of people saying what they have is the best...i.e. useless information.

Koni/GC OTS rates (380/250) and Progress (350/250) are supposed to ride pretty nice (although I don't personally know what that means) while handling better than stock. Both those are just a step stiffer than ITR. If your cousin is serious, those seem to be the best brands on the market for budget DD suspension setups. I'd have your cousin call and talk to them -- both Koni and Progress have excellent customer service reputations.
my DD setup is consisting of
HR OE Sport springs, KYB GR-2 Struts, full front end replacement (ebay suspension kit from world suspension) tie rods, control arms, ball joints, bushings. Poly sway bar bushings/links front and rear.

koni str.t is priced roughly the same as the blues. better valving and a lifetime warranty. it's a new shock that a lot of people haven't had a chance to drive yet. since i have driven both the only thing i can say is rebound. the str.t has much better rebound control than the blues ever drempt of
Cheap dd route, basically oem replacements: Tokico Blues, KYB Gr-2, Skunk2 Sport Shocks, Eibach Struts, Koni srt.t
You could add some nice tein, ground control, skunk2 coilovers/springs for a nicer ride though; Or just splurge and get Koni Yellows..

most springs ride nice but are never low enough, i would hate to cut new springs thats why my suggestion to him was ground control coilovers...i suggested Teins but we'll see
that spring has been heated, not cut. heating is the ultra ghetto way to slam a car. basically you use an torch, heat the spring and jump on the bumper.

That was a heated spring. I've drove on a HondaSport springs with one dead coil cut on all 4 corners and quality shocks for over 4 years with out any issues.
Don't forget to have him buy a camber kit and install it with the springs and shocks too..

i know alot of people who ride on cut springs and prefer it, my gf's cousin had gc/koni yellows, took off his konis and put cut springs on the coilover perch and said it rides much better. My girlfriends car is also pretty low on cut springs and rides smoother than my car with tokico illuminas and skunk2 coilovers with extended top hats.

I DEFINITELY do not recommend camber kit if he is going to have springs or mild drop on his car. If you do a good amount of autox or track stuff and need to adjust your camber, then thats when you buy camber kits.
springs almost never fail. check out how many 300k cars are on stock springs. fiberglass leaf springs like the corvette uses have been known to fail north of 100k miles but coils generally don't tension loss maybe. also, the danger in cutting springs is them unloading from not seating properly. ground controls for example run loose in most apps and have no issues at all. as far as progressive goes.
