Default what engines can fit in a 84 civic wagon

i wanted to know if i could put a newer engine from maybe a 90s civic into my 84 civic wagon and if so would it just bolt in or would i have to modify the car. and would it be possible to put an 1996 integra engine and 5speed tranny in it or is that going to be to much modification. i just want to know for future reference so i can plan out what i would like to do with my car in the futre. Thank you so much for your help

As long as your wagon is a 2WD model, any engine tranny combo from an 84-87 civic/crx will bolt in with the same mounts.(potentially some wiring depending on donor engine)
The 86-89 integra 1.6L engines/tranny combo will bolt in using all the teg mounts, driveshafts, hubs, front brakes...(wiring definitely needed here)
If it is the 4WD model, you can get the engine from an 86-89 integra to mount to the stock tranny, using a slightly modified civic engine mount, or using the teg mount. (definitely wiring to be done here)
Anything other than those and you are looking at having to buy/make custom mounts and potentially custom mount locations, as well as all of the other wiring/fuel routing items that may be needed.

How much are modification are you considering to be "too much?"

you can drop any b series engine into that car. if you have a '96 integra swap that will work fine. go to http://hasport.com/store/index.php/mounts/civic/af.html and you can see that they sell mounts for this particular swap

Would a D series motor and transmission fit? Or would he (and possibly I) be limited to a B series? The reson I ask is there is a D series engine and transmission available locally.

Literally anything CAN be put in there...
It all depends upon the budget available and the skills of the person doing it.

A D16A1 from an 86-89 integra is the easiest D swap, as you can just have a donor car sitting there and migrate stuff over.

Other D-series swaps require custom mounts as well as other things to have it all function properly...

Again, All depends on the person doing the swap.
