Default new to the honda world

I just recently purchased a 97 civic ex, 5 speed, non v-tech. This is my first honda that i am able to drive and would like to build some day. Right now just looking for some suggestions of what to do with the motor. Is it worth keeping the original engine and building it or going out and getting something different like a b series? Im not looking to put anything outrageous together just something that will move good but be affordable too since the car is a daily driver. thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Welcome.

Post some pics of the car so that we could take a look at what you have. For now no pics=fake.

Since this is going to be your DD, you could either swap out the engine for a B16 or a B18 or a B20. But I am not too sure you want to spend that kind of money. If your not all too serious about speed.. this is what I would do.

Is it the original engine? Take a look around the forum and use the search alot. Plenty of modifications done to D series engines. I would slightly build the head.. vtec. Put a turbo on it to 8-10 psi and you will have a fun DD/WW.

I would change the suspension/brakes/clutch and I would add a sway bar. Anything to make your car more fun. Is the paint fading?

Welcome to the forum. Lots of knowledge posted all around.

And if not lots of people are glad to help here.

Best thing to do , is save money for a bit drive the cr and figure out what your final plans are for the car and budget ( saves you the hassle of doing things two or three times over ).

And of course pics are good.

nah jk man

welcome

this place is full of lots and lots of tech, and lots of ppl that are usually glad to help, but sometimes can be complete aholes. be smart with your posts, it seems like u have a good idea of what u want, now just refine it down a little and you should come up with a nice little dd build, but forewarning, they never end as just a dd build haha

i know projects never end i have cars and trucks all over the yard that arent done.I plan on doing the body work and painting the car this summer. Probably lower it some with some coilovers, and powdercoat anything that i can fit in my oven from the suspension and engine. Just tinted the windows yesterday, and plan on putting a coat of clear with a light tint of black in it over the tailights this weekend.as far as the engine goes id like to just build the one in the car instead of going with a swap. i wanna go fast but dont have to break any world records, thats what my bike is for.Ill post up some pics and keep updating them as i go along, i know its gonna be a long process since im building 2 trucks and a camaro now too and i gotta beable to keep driving it while i work on it or my girlfreind will kill me.

Nice man... Id start with a mild drop and shocks (like a pro kit with some nice shocks) and some EBC green stuff brake pads... can do all that for under a grand and it will handle and brake nice (aka car becomes fun even though it isnt fast yet)

Cheers

been awhile since ive been on here and really havent accomplished much on the car. got the top half of the car all dent free and primed but then after i bought some new wheels for it someone decided to loosen up the lug nuts and i had one wheel come off and destroy the driver side fender then about a week later blew the engine. I picked up another engine last week(d16y7) and a vtec head so now im in the process of going thru the entire engine and replacing and cleaning up the whole thing so that its like new when it goes in.by the way if anyone has any suggestions on doing the mini me swap let me know. thanks.
