EFRue57's CR-X build thread........56k beware
Well it has been too long since I've had a project worth making a build thread for but hopefully that is now remedied. I inherited this 89 CR-X HF from my brother after he got out of Hondas and started working on his 86 projects.
Things he did that I am keeping are JDM front, minus the hood though so if anyone has one I need it, lol. UKDM tail lights, JDM back seat, black and gray interior change over, JDM power windows, and ITR 5 lug and brakes.
I recently purchased a glass top, something my brother always wanted but never came across one at an opportune time, JDM rear hatch for the glass top, and JDM bronze rear quarter glass.
In a couple of weeks I am picking up a donor 91 CR-X Si and am removing all of the wiring from bumper to bumper with the exception of the sunroof wiring. This will be necessary so that I can have functioning rear wiper and squirter, something the HF did not come with. Also, so I can switch to the 90-91 guage cluster as opposed to the 88-89. And lastly for the A/C wiring and A/C componets, something my CR-X never had.
I have more things planned but will wait until those start happening before posting. And to anyone with negative comments please keep them to yourself. If you don't like something I do to my car then by all means, go buy your own and do as you like to it. I am building this car to my tastes and my tastes alone. This thread is meant to be a log for myself and for those to view who want to keep up with my progress.
Here are some pics how it is now.
The project itself

Started removing the front end and everything from the engine bay getting ready for paint

The glass top

With map light, head liner, and Mugen sticker, lol

JDM hatch for a glass top CR-X w/ spoiler

On a USDM CR-X the squirter is on the roof. On a JDM CR-X with the glass top the squirter is on the hatch.

And not as important, but one of my favorite items, my JDM CR-X steering wheel

More pics and updates soon............

thanks..........got bored in the last hour so decided to put the hatch on to see how the spoiler looked, lol. I was unsure if I wanted to keep it or not but after seeing it on I've decided I like it.
the hinges from the JDM hatch had a bunch of rust on the studs so I switched out the ones from the original hatch.

And new hatch

oh yeah and I also picked up 2 front s2k wheels and am looking for 2 more to see if i like them on the car. you can see the 2 i already i have on the back.

thanks guys..........also, another good thing is that I am no longer cursed with the blown hatch struts, lol. The ones on the JDM hatch work awesome.

thanks for the comment. engine is one of those things I will post info about once I start building it. Until then everyone will have to wait, lol. But I'll narrow it down a little, I'm not too big of a fan of the K swap in a CR-X. I know the power is awesome but asthetically it just doesn't appeal to me. Also, it will not be what the sticker says on the hatch.
Oh don't give me that crap, I've seen your car and it is an exceptionally clean CR-X, lol. I would love it if mine was put together like yours and all I had to do was add the glass top and front end. It would make my job a hell of a lot easier. Thank you for the kind words though.
THEY'RE EVERYWHERE! clean rexys on here all damn day lol. Me likey!
5 lug? was that hard swap? So ur putting in AC huh? extra pain the @$$ but i guess its worth it during the summer. going for a turbo or N/A build?

thank you, one of my favorite items so far, lol.
thanks for the kind words. 5 lug wasn't too difficult, no. just required a small amount of machine work.
a/c, probably a little bit of a pain yes, but Texas summers can get quite hot and I have a wife and 2 kids who will all ride in the car at one point or another. I'm sure the little luxuries like that will be appreciated by them even if they don't realize it, lol.
It will be an N/A build. I'm not trying to be the fastest one out there but it will have some pep to it for sure. I just want a fun car I can go to meets with and drive it every day without worries of possible engine or tuning troubles.

Here's to the N/As! by "pep" i'll assume you meant DOHC right? I mean a d series could be peppy, but prolly not worth it N/A. unless your big on fuel economy.
It ran a 9.5 in the 8th mile with stripped interior and an 1/8 tank of gas, lol. Now 9.5 isn't anything too big to brag about but coming from an NA single cam, I don't think that's too bad, lol.
More pics to come......
I live out in the sticks, lol. Those last pics are actually it sitting by the side of my house. It keeps it out of view from the street so the Home Owners Association can't say anything about it, lol. No garage sucks. However living out where I live is kinda hard to find so I don't have to worry too much about greedy people trying to take things off my car I like to keep on it
Interesting story and good luck for me. About 4 years ago my brother and a friend of his met up a friend of a friend kind of deal and ended up going over to this guy Dennis' house. My brother had never met Dennis before but they were all car guys and Dennis' brother happened to be into Hondas, CR-Xs specifically.
By some means or another this guy Dennis had gone to Japan and found two glass top CR-Xs in I can only assume a salvage yard and had them dismantle both of them and ship him the parts he wanted to his home here in Texas.
My brother envied the parts at the time but didn't think too much more of it and after he left their house that night he didn't stay in contact with them.
Well a year later my brother decided he would like to try a glass top install and started trying to source one. Proving unsuccessful he recalled Dennis and his brother having these glass tops and just thought, "Well it's probably unlikely, but I'll chance it and see if they still live there and if so maybe they still have 1 of the 2 and possibly want to sell it."
He remembered where they lived and went to their house and sure enough they still lived there and they still had not just 1 but both of the glass tops. He wanted to pick it up but at the time did not know how much they cost and did not have enough funds to buy it at the time.
Fast forward another 2 years and you get to where we are at now. Same story as before only now I am the main character and my brother plays the middle man. I figure it's a long shot but we go back there and what do you know but these guys will hold parts and NEVER part with them until someone comes up with money for them, lol.
So all that being said, I had the money for it and picked it up obviously. They have a few more parts I am trying to get, but I have a few more other financial obligations to take care of first.
Sorry for being so wordy but I just thought it kinda interesting, lol.

thanks man, i really appreciated all the positive feedback.
in regards to your question there are always people out there who can find something they don't like about someone else's car and they feel the need to voice their opinion on it. I know my car will not suit everyone's tastes but that goes back to my first post saying that I am building it to my tastes.
for example a lot of people don't agree with 5 lug on ef's. their entitled to their opinion I just ask that they don't bash my decision to do it.
Thanks again everyone.

went ahead and took a couple of pics of the rear quarter glass. You can kinda see in the pics the bronze tint to the glass against the carpet, lol.

a little over spray from something in JDM land, lol. Nothing a razor blade won't fix.

OK Honda!!!
