Removing power lock motor
My power lock motor make a sound like a gear is stripped, and they both make this sound. I would like to take a look at them to see if I could repair rather than replace, but I can't get them out of the door. I obviously have had the door panel off, the 3 screws on the latch were out, but I couldn't get the arm that goes from the motor to the exterior handle off (the big one). I could see some type of clip or retainer, but I couldn't get it off. Do I need to remove the window glass to do this? I had the glass channel loose, hoping I could manuever the motor past it, but no luck. I messed with it for about 30 minutes then buttoned everything back up.

Is yours a 5th gen (94-97)?
You do not need to remove the glass.
1. Remove the center channel held on by the one bolt.
2. There is a black plastic shield/guard held in place with one Philips screw, remove that.
3. Remove the three Philips screws holding the actuator to the latch. It should come out.

If you could post a picture of what you are describing, then I might understand what is blocking you from removing it.

The car is a 96, sorry about that.
I read the other post, that is exactly what I needed. Fixed both sides in little over an hour.
Redbull, you are AWESOME!
Thanks

I wish that had fixed my car. I took both sides off and the rubbers were perfect, I don't know why the lock cycles after I lock the doors but I do know the two front door actuators are in good shape. It wasn't a total loss I replaced my front speakers while I was in there.
