Can Running a Motor With NO Thermostat be harmful to the motor?
i swapped a b20 into my teg. only problem i had was it kept over heating. well the fan wasnt even turning on so i thought that was the problem, i wired a switch and it still over heated. i squeezed the top hose from the RADIATOR to the HEAD and there was no coolant. my friend suggested i take the thermostat out and run it like that. i did it and problem solved. at first start up it will read cold and after driving it will get to operating temp. but with no thermostat could this harm the motor? im planning on taking a 18 hour trip and just dont want any surprises.
My b16a3 sat in a shop for yeeaaaarrrsss. So when I got it the thermostat was stuck open I guess, but it never overheated, and in cold weather it would actually drop back down towards cold.. So my AEM cai helped out a lot more that way. It just sucked because my heat wouldn't warm up!. But no surprises for me, just remember to turn your fan on

The correct way would be to find out "why" its overheating and fix it the right way, running with no Thermostat usually will not allow the engine to reach full operating temp, its not good to constantly drive and engine below operating temp. The engine you had in your Teg before you swapped in the B20(I assume an LS), did it overheat?
Fix this the right way and not half *** by taking your T-Stat out, that's my opinion.
You say you wired to fan to come on and it still overheated, but once you took the T-Stat out the overheating problem was solved, it sounds to me the T-Stat you took out was "Stuck Closed" never allowing the coolant to fully circulate between radiator and engine thus causing the engine to overheat. I would put a "new" T-Stat in there and see if that fixes your problem, then you will run with the engine at Operating temp and have heat as well.
Ditto the above, install a thermostat, running an engine at below normal operating temp. is not a good thing, at the very least you will get crappy MPG and emission system will not operate properly.
Its not something that is going to damage your engine overnight but your engine will wear out early. You should always run a thermostat in a street car, there is no excuse not to.
well ill try that soon. i really do want it running the right way. cuz i just want to have that piece of mind that my car is in tip tiop shape on a 17 hour drive.

Thermostats are under 10$. Mine was was a STANT one 7.89$. I'd put in a new one before your trip since there not expensive and you should have one like everyone is saying.

As a good measure you might also consider replacing your radiator cap. The radiator cap actually helps the cooling system pressurize, which raises the boiling point of the coolant. You can also lose coolant if the cap doesn't make a good seal.
You also may want to install that thermostat a couple of days before you leave on your trip so you can confirm that the engine is not going to overheat. It would suck to do it the night before the trip only to find out that morning that the engine overheats after an hour driving.
