Hey guys I am trying to use my the original alternator on my Y8 motor in my 88 DX wagon.
The pulleys on the DX D15 motor and the Y8 motor are different size.
Can I just swap them straight across? One is a 3 rib belt and one is a 4 rib belt I think?
The DX alternator will not work unless I change the crank pulley so that is not an option
I don't have a wrench that size, the pulley looks to be about a 21mm or 22mm? I can't find it in my helms manual....
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

putting a larger pulley on will slow down (underdrive) the aternator, a smaller pulley will speed up the aternator. This could pose a problem depending on how different the pulley sizes are, especially if you have amps and subs.
you need a 22mm box wrench and a 10 mm box wrench.
well whichever pulley you use must match up with you crank pulley. how many ribs on your crank pulley?
and why is it that your pulley doesnt match your crank pulley, maybe its not the "right" alternator?

Right now I have the original crank pulley on the D16Y8 motor. This alternator does not match up to the wiring harness in the 88 DX im installing it in and the DX alternator belt is too small, the belt does not reach the crank pulley.
If I remember correctly, the Y8 crank pulley has 4 ribs and the DX motor has 3 ribs.
With my limited experience I assumed the simplest route would be to swap the alternator pulleys.
