My 2010 Honda Pilot Has 2,540 miles and has used 1.5QT of oil HELP!!
it is normal for a new engine to use a little oil as it breaks in,also it has oil from the factory that has an additive to help this process.I would monitor this after you change your oil for the first time.
bro that is not normal... oil does not just disapear on a new motor.. i get what your saying but no that much should disappear.. a quart and a half an u aint even get ur first oil change.. if you never checked u prolly would of had no oil.. honda engineers said its ok??? i think not.. there is definetly something wrong wheather your burning the oil or its leaking but a quart and a half is no good... my .02
All my 4 cylinder Hondas (5) since 1988 have never lost a drop of oil (between changes). Buying extra oil was a waste of money.
Now both my cars are 3.5 V6. At 800 miles then, my 09 Ody was drinking oil. I added because guys said it was "normal." It was almost OMG-WTF considering my past experiences with Honda engines. It was about 1 qrt. Let's watch this.
After my first oil change and few hundred miles, I had to add just a bit (maybe 1/8 qrt). Maybe the shop just didn't top it off.
After 2nd oil change, and a few thousand miles, I checked again a few weeks ago. (13K miles).
Not a drop of oil lost......

My 10 Accord V6 with 800+ miles have not lost a drop of oil so far. I was expecting it to drink some, but not a drop (so far).
I'm hoping it'll stay that way.
Pilot ~ = Odyssey, from the same Lincoln, Alabama plant.
Cliff: Keep an eye on it. Maybe it'll turn around and be "perfect." That's how the V6s roll.

Like it already stated, change your oil, then monitor the oil level. It will need to burn more than a quart every 1000 miles for Honda to consider it abnormal(thats what the engineers say).Oh I would be pissed if my engine used oil like that though,so I understand your concern bro.I just bought a 2010 Mustang GT,added a quart at 2000 miles, changed my oil at 3000 with mobil one,and haven't added any since,I now have 5700 on the car.

when i was a Mechanic at Honda and when i did P.D.I.(Pre Delivery Inspections), part of the inspection was to check the oil level along with a hundred other things. most of the time they were right at the full mark. but every once in a while, i found a couple that were low. the lowest i ever found on a brand spankin' new honda was 1.25 qt. low.
so in conclusion...you might wanna the find out who did the P.D.I. on your Honda at the dealership. Maybe the tech didn't check the oil level because he/she overlook it(lazy). also, monitor your oil level after your first oil change just in case im wrong.

ok thanks for all the replys ht is the best again... also on another note just came from honda dealer and they pulled the plugs and check for leaks nothing so they said were going to due an oil constupion test come back in 1000 miles.... so after flipping out and speaking to the manager and tech they both called honda and they said on speakerphone it is normal for a honda to burn up to a quart per 1000 miles period anything over that is an issue... so but im going to see why happens... sry so sloppy typing from crappy phone
I have a similar problem. I owe a Honda CR-V 2008/2009 and the first 6000miles it dropped even below the minimum mark.
After service I checked the car more frequently and the oil consumption is just crazy.
Right now I am at 12.000miles and I brought the car for its second service. Again a lot of oil loss. Now even more then before.
The agency is starting now a test where I have to pass every 2 weeks by the shop and they will measure the oil level. Somehow they don't believe me.
Since I have owned before a couple of new and used cars and never had a problem like that on any of them, I know that this is just not right.
Does anyone know if the Honda CRV 2008-2009 have a problem with high oil consumption or there engine?

Update on my own thread. I'm at 3K miles now (10 Accord) and have added about 1.5 qt of oil so far. Still too early for my first oil change. Ody is still doing ok, but I did add 1/4 qt just because I had a bottle open. Could have done without the add since I'm going to change it a few weeks.
Overall, I'm sort of disappointed with this and what I'm reading that buring oil is now acceptable and normal. Maybe I been just lucky with Honda for 20+ years (5 cars) where Honda engine burn NO oil. Maybe I should say "lower my expectations" rather than disappointed. Oil is only $2 a qt.
OP, your fine, dont sweat it. Top it off and monitor it during the break inperiod. Youwill be fine
You have a different problem, and I would start by doing a leak down and compression test to check valves/guides and rings.

Another thing to consider when comparing your newer vehicle to an older vehicle is the technology being used now. With ultra lean running engines less fuel will make it into the crankcase cause there is less fuel being deposited into the combustion chamber.
One last thing on oil level, when checking your oil did you just turn off the engine then instantly check the level or did you check it after sitting all night. Keep that in mind cause there could be a half quart difference depending on how you check.
1 quart every 1000 miles, yup get used to it and i dont why everyone is complaining about having to check and add oil. atleast it gives you something to do on you Honda.
never say never
if you really are paranoid you have a bum motor for whatever reason when you hit 15% on your oil change reminder make an apointment at the dealer have them change the oil and say you wanna start an oil consumption test. keep in mind honda is 1qt every 1k is OK as always its the customers job to keep the oil level in the "full" range till any warranty is given.
Also have them throw some dye into the engine as well thats one way to make sure and prove where its coming..it will light up the exhaust with a uv light
i've had a few people complain about this what your complaining about and no i havn't put an engine in for it yet.

I'm sure it burns oil like all engine. But I never had a need to add oil in-between oil changes on all my past 4 cylinder engines.
With my v6s, yes, I now need to buy more oil.
bring it to honda they will replace the valve seals because they were installed wrong on the new v6s. then most likely you will get a new engine.
i just got my 2010 two months ago and have about 1500 miles on it.
Did u check the oil for any reason?
Did the warning light come on to make you check it?
Its a brand new car I would have never even attempted to check the oil level if the warning light didn't come on.
If its ok to burn one quart every 1000 miles by the first oil change it would technically be dry.

I have a 2010 EX-L with the same issue with 3000 miles. I'm going to comb over the warranty disclaimers. The only thing my dealership told me was to bring the car in for an oil change once it hits 12-15%. I still have 90% showing on my gauge. At this rate I won't have any oil left if I listen to the dealer.......
I have a 2007 Honda Pilot with 60,000 miles and I have been losing oil every 2000 to 3000 miles or so? I reported it my local dealer and they provided me with a lousy answer - ''It is normal to lose 1 QT every 1000 miles.'
I also called US HONDA Customer Service and they have not provided any support or rationale. They also are saying normal to lose/burn oil every 1000 miles.
I am perpelexed and annoyed that HONDA is not addressing it?

My 09 Pilot is also burning oil at 29000mi. The dealer said their is an bulletin up date on oil consumption. They changed the valve timing. Evey oil change my oil was at least 1 to 1 1/2 qt low. Also my front brake rotors where warped and they turned the rotors. The serpentine belt was also replaced as it was frayed and about to break. What's next????
