Default car jerks to the left

so i went down to churches yesterday to get tuned. when i leave everything is smooth once i get to downtown l.a. i started to slowdown cause of traffic and my steering wheel started to jerk to the left quick but hard jerks, i thought it was the road since once i got off, it didnt do it. i jacked it up checked for any loose, broken parts, nothing no play on the wheels or anything all i saw was the passengerside rack and pinion boot torn a bit. i got back on the road and drove fine for about 30mi then a jerk i drove it all the way home at around 40-50. i did notice that it would start doing it once i let of the gas, if i had the gas pressed even at just 10% it wouldnt do it. i need your guys help bad on this one im stuck on this one. thaks in advance for the help

That sort of problem happens when there's something wrong with the P.S. system. Usually either a leak/air in the system or low pressure from a bad P.S. pump. It doesn't do it when you press the gas because at higher RPM the pump pulley spins faster and generates more pressure. You can try bleeding the system but it's more likely that the pump is wearing out. Make sure the belt isn't slipping first and then the best way to check the pump is just replace the it, bleed the system and return it if the problem still occurs.

In that case, the problem's most likely going to be with the right front wheel. I'd check the brake first. Just to make sure, you don't have ABS do you?

BTW I said it's the likely the right front because I read in your first post that it was jerking to the right, but now I'm noticing as I should have before that the thread title says to the left?

lol Try to keep your vast optimism in check. It's entirely possible that you had something stuck in your brake and that it's gone now.

If you notice any circumstances that need to occur for the problem to happen or any times the problem definately doesn't happen, post them. Such as if it only happens when braking, when the car's warm/cold, when it's cold outside, when in gear etc.

check your tire pressure just to be sure, low tire pressure can do that. you also could have a caliper starting to sieze up. take a screwdriver, stick it through the slot on the top of the caliper and into one of the vents of the rotor, and pull the screwdriver towards you to see if the caliper piston will depress. if it does, wiggle the caliper to see if the slide pins are working okay. if they do wiggle, then the caliper is ok. also- does your trans have an LSD?

i just checked my caliper its good. i have no lsd. i pulled out my axle and it has a lot of play on the side that goes to the half shaft you can pull out of the cup and back in so im thinking it is my axle. i still don't rule out the possibility that it is the rack n pinion.

Your left front motor mount may have more give in it then the right side tranny mount. When you shift gears does it pull to the left?
You mentioned you did a swap did you use new matching motor mounts?
I had a similar problem after a auto to manual swap and my left and right mounts were not a matching pair. It's like you get torque steer but it is a more drastic pull to the left when you shift.

A good test might be to accelerate quickly up a steep hill and then go down the hill. Start slow at the top of the hill, accelerate quickly down it and pull your foot off of the gas part of the way down. Both the going up and the going down procedure will create alot of resistance on your drivetrain and hopefully will cause a problem to show itself.
