Default Just another HID question?

Hey guys,

I have a 2000 honda accord, completely stock. I travel a lot and want a pair of really really good headlights. I want true hid headlights on my car. And I dont want to half a** it.

I don't want cheap fake hid bulbs. I want real hid output...like you would find on a luxury auto (I don't want to buy a luxury auto).

I have searched, searched, and searched again. At first, I thought that I needed to get a set of projector headlights (LIKE some TYC) and then some h1 hid bulbs....but the more searching I did...it sounds like if you want to do it right you have to do a retrofit?

Can you please direct me to where I can get some info on a retrofit for a 98-02 accord? Have anyone done a right up on this? Where can I purchase the supplies for this?

thanks for the help! your community rocks! = Steve

If you honestly want to do it right, then yes a retrofit is the best route. You definitely did your research.

There was a company "CustomLightz" here http://www.customlightz.com/ that do quite a lot of retrofits. They also sell supplies in

If you're interested in doing it yourself :

Just do a search on a retrofit.

Putting a plug and play kit in a reflective housing is a horrible horrible idea.

unless you get HID's made for the reflector housing. But even then, the output and cutoff is still not as good as a real retro fit.

Well the trick with those though, is you need the HID reflector haha. I think one of the guys on HS did the retrofit with reflector housings from like the TL or CL?

i have a 96 civic four door. decided to get some street-legal tyc projectors off ebay for $100, since K2 motoring headlights have ridiculous output and "ticket-please" glare. oh, and i cant afford retrofits. i was surprised and amazed by the output of the tyc's with halogens. i used the h1 halogen bulbs that came with it. here's a pic of the low-beam cut off:

I'm unsure why you would post that. Those projectors are meant to work with halogen bulbs, hence the lack of glare. Putting HID's in those and the light goes all over the damn place. That is what everyone is talking about when it comes to glare issues.

The projectors will do better than reflectors generally, but still are not made to focus the amount of light emitted by HIDs.

I've got stock head lights in my 98 Accord sedan, I bought my REAL HID's at VVME.com they are legit HID's and they are immensely brighter than the stock or "blue hid simulation" cheap *** eBay bulbs.

And blind the **** out of everyone.

Even the $30 are "legit" HID's, it's just a question of quality and lifetime. ALL plug and play kits will glare up.

They do indeed, generally speaking they have some top notch kits for awesome prices. I picked up my 3000K set from them for my foglight retrofit.

Yes sir, I already know that. I did some searching before I bought those TYC's. TYC even stated that they dont recommend PnP HID kits on those, and so i didnt use an HID kit. I used only halogen h1 bulbs (which i mentioned) that came with the headlights preassembled. My reply was simply to show that you can still get great light output without doing any retrofit or HID PnP kit AND still be street legal.

Ah, I misunderstood the point of the post

TYC projectors are generally pretty good, I just don't like the style. There's actually a few people that use those projectors as starting points for retrofits.

I've got TYC projectors with DDMTuning HID's in them. Works great, just had to file the socket a bit to get the bulb to fit.

DDMTuning is by far the best bang for your buck especially since their kits have a lifetime warranty and the cust. service is top notch as well. BUT, on the 5th gens you have to reverse the plug on the ballast, some just turn it upside down after filing it but I cut off the connector and soldered it on the correct way.

Hahaha, I thought that was just my problem! That Honda reverse polarity madness! I figured it was just something crazy about my car when I was putting in my HID's..

I too swear by DDM.. I have two of the slimline kits.. unfortunately I bought the first one when it was still about $70, but the second cost me $45 before shipping..
Excellent for the price and easy to mount... Only tip I would give is, don't use their crappy double sided tape.. Invest in the 3m tape and you dont even have to drill!

But yes, I havent seen too many of the TYC's on the road myself, but from what I understand they can actually work decently well with a 35w HID kit.. The light cutoff is fairly sharp and they really do not glare that much..
That said, retrofit is the best and only "true" way to go... You could even go 50w kit with a good retrofit..

Yeah, when I was installing them I was so confused! I also bought the harness from them so it seemed like black was really + and vice versa! Took me a bit to get all that sorted out!

The cut-off isn't to bad. When I first put them in they were aimed a little high and I could barely tell when the brights were on. But, I would get flashed once a week or so.

So I aimed them down and now they are a bit to low...but I havent bothered adjusting them for like a year, although its on my to do list!

I'll grab some pics for you, but it won't be for a week or so. My camera is at my family's place and I prolly will head back there this weekend to try and salvage my front lip that got ripped off.

btw there are no legal kid kits that can be installed on your car so if you get pulled over, they can tow your car. The only time it is legal to put a HID kit on a car is if a newer model of your car game with one nad it could be fitted to your car. since accords do not have any hids that will fit your car, you are sol.........

No idea. I never even tried them w/ halogens. As soon as I got the TYC's the ddmtuning hid's went straight in.
