Default EM1 Front Speaker Size? 6.5"...not happenin

OK, so i've searched and searched...but no luck. Everyone is using 6.5" speakers for the front doors on EKs and EM1s...but how? Crutchfield says 6.5, everywhere I look says 6.5 fits, hell I even saw that FLOSS' 6.5" front speakers were stolen. The basket on EVERY 6.5" speaker I've got my hands on will NOT fit. I've considered cutting the actual door, but the speaker wont even fit properly in the door panel without the cover fitting. What are you guys doing? 5.25"? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I've got Alpine SPS-1629S in mine. They're 6.5 inch.

According to Crutchfield:

Top-mount Depth (Inches) - 1 13/16
Bottom-mount Depth (Inches) - N/A
Cutout Diameter or Length (inches) - 5

The stock speakers are "standard" 6.5" speakers, they need a 5" diameter mounting hole and a 2" mounting depth, make sure the speakers you have are not "over-sized" 6.5" they need a bigger then 5" diameter mounting hole.
Mounting depths of more then 2" can be dealt with by cutting a hole in the back of the plastic housing to allow fore the deeper magnet.

Where all "standard" 6.5" speakers use a 5" diameter hole, that is not the case for "over-sized" 6.5" speaker, mounting hole diameter will be diff. from brand to brand and even model to model.

It is always best to replace the stock plastic speaker housing with a custom MDF housing anyway. 94
