Default Timing belt snapped now what??

Ok so driving down the freeway 80mph in my gs integra and bam car lost power and died. Pulled over and car wouldnt start, towed it home to find the t-belt loose as **** and cam gears were not set even. So now i have to take the lower cover off and see if the tensioner gave out or if the belt is snapped down there. But what about the valves? I heard these are interface motors and am worried about the valves. Whats the easiest way to check them? If they are bent what all is required for a proper fix?

Easiest way is put the engine back in time, and do a cyl leak down test or a comp test. I would suggest a cyl leak down because if you do have a bent valve you wont cause any more damage.

More than likely if you snapped a belt your valves are damaged and or pistons are cracked.

My car died and I found out the timing belt skipped. Cams were 180 degrees opposite each other but I had no engine damage. I agree with doing the leakdown test after you install a new timing belt.

I would actually pull the head, just in case you've got a major problem like a broken valve, it's best not to have any combustion in there until you've got it sorted out. But a compression test will tell you if you have a bent valve or something along those lines.

Pulling the head will deff let you know you have a issue quickly and easily.

But the quickest way of checking w/ out risking damnage is doing a leak down test.

That sucks i have to install the new belt first. Now if the valves are just bent then can i just change the valves that are bent? and if so do i need springs and retainers also for the new valves? car has about 110k on it

Bent valves are the most likely problem. You didn't overrev so I'd think the rest of the valvetrain was OK. Like people have said a leakdown test is an easy way to check for bent valves. The alternative is pulling the head. If your non-bent valves look OK I would think replacing only the bent ones would be fine.

Cool i guess ill just install the new belt first seems alot easier then taking the head off. So new tensioner, timing belt, water pump, vc gasket, and possible valves and i should be good right

Doing the leakdown test would be easier with a new timing belt on, but I would think it would be possible with the belt off. Taking the head off, however, would be much simpler now while the belt is still off.
