Default What can you stripp out of a 92 Civic Hatchback CX to make it lighter??

I have a 92 Civic Hatchback cx. It is soon to be a 2.0 ls/vtec Turbo. It is a daily driver when I am not a work.

I want to know what can I take out of the car to make it lighter.
Already took out:
Heater Stuff under the dashboard 2/3 black boxes took out already
Black little venting thing that runs behind the gauge cluster from one of the boxes to the drivers vent.
Black little thing that routes the heat from the black box to the passenger vents and to the middle
Rear Interior Panels from the seat on back

What else can i take out.!!!

My friend has a stripped down VX, he couldn't find anything else to take out, so he replaced the back three windows with FAL units, and saved some more weight.

You can take out your bumper supports I hear but I've not ventured that far yet. I went to the track tonight so I cleaned out my car. I filled a shoebox with stuff from the glove box and tons of change from the ashtray. I bet the box weighed 5 lbs after I filled it. Center console and shift boot/cupholder, carpet, undercoating, rear seatbelts, winshield washer componets. You get to looking and it adds up quick with little parts.

Since the Cx 92 weighs 2094. SO far rear interior, rear seats, no heat, no ac, lines from head and ac that run into the engine bay. Carpets gone. Front bumper support has been gone. dunno what else. tar

why in the world would you want to strip MORE than what you can even THINK of to strip?

My gosh...2.0 VTEC turbo? I don't think you'll need anymore weight savings.

You could always drill weight saving holes in various interior panels and/or underbody sections.

Just in the front floor boards for driver and passenger.
As far as anything else to strip- depends do you want a passenger? You can take out the pass, seat and save somewhere around 30 lbs. Take out the spare and tools (can of fix a flat or hope you dont get a flat ). Then you pretty much get into what the other guys have mentioned- drilling, cutting and welding components. One of the best weight reductions can be aftermarket parts. I'm sure with your set-up many of the heavy OEM parts have been replaced already. If you get an aftermarket steering wheel w/o air bag that may lose some weight as well, and maybe a racing seat with harness... just some ideas......

I don't understand why anyone would remove the bumper support????? Also by removing the heater and ducting you won't have any aid in clearing windows when they fog up.

From what I understand every 100lbs removed from the car drops about 0.1 seconds from the quarter mile time.

Some useful weight reduction I found is as follows:
These are weights from my 92 DX HB
A/C removal = 38 lbs
Rear seatbelts = 7 lbs
Swap from stock D16 exhaust manifold to DC header dropped 11 lbs
Aluminum flywheel dropped about 13 lbs

The weight that makes a good difference is the extra weight in front of the drive wheels (A/C and header). Removal of the rear seats and spare/jack for autox also helps rotation.

FAL rear windows, Comp engineering tubular steel front lower arms drop weight, some of the CX or VX have cast aluminum motor mounts. Front swaybar (if present) can be removed, keeping with a smaller/lower fluid capacity radiator will keep the front end lighter, empty the window washer reservoir, swap to an odyssey battery.

Yes, this has already all been covered before:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=150315

Pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about weight for the 1992-1993 Civic hatches is in that thread.

It includes what makes the DX and Si heavier than the CX/VX, and what you can do to firther lighten up your car.

IMO weight is really important if you're all-motor or near-stock motor, but if you're boosting a DOHC motor then I think you could still not do to much weight redux and you'd still be hauling ***.

I would have to share this opinion as well! Be happy you aren't driving a 6g coupe!

Man my cx weighs 2094 stock. BOut to drop a 2.2ls/vtec turbo in. Roll cage. so far heater core has been taken out, motor blower, all that gay **** under the dashboard . I left my dashboard vents to make it seem it has ac/heat. I left my ac/heat controllers. The routing things for the heats have been taken out. rear seats, rear panels. Next my carpet. Windshield fluid taken out. Lots of ******* bolts that i no longer need.
