I got one!!! Now what?!?
Ok...
I finally got my hands in an si transmission... using the faq board I determined its a 90-91 si tranny. and its been sitting out for a while... the outer casing looks like hell but the shaft still spins just fine. It probably has no oil in it and yeah... I do have an act stage one clutch and streetlight flywheel I am putting with it BUT before I slap it onto my car I wanted to run this by everyone and ask (not if) what should I do for a rebuild of this tranny? Should I do the gaskets and rings and play it by ear for the rest of it due to the age of it and the amount of time it has been sitting out in the elements? According to the guy I got it from it had been sitting out for a few years. Any advice is helpful. Thanks in advance. C

well how much did it cost? and how much to rebuild?
i guess finding an si tranny is getting harder but they're cheap at least. But anything d series is so cheap replacing it is usually cheaper than repairing.
if you do just install it, you might want to flush the tranny once.

I got it for about 100 but I haven't seen the inside of it yet so I dunno... I don't want to have to trip on it so I will probably start asking around about a rebuild of it. thanks.
manual transmissions are not that difficult to rebuild at all you would be better off just buying a manual and a simple socket set and some snap ring pliers and going at it yourself...
im about to rebuild mine. i was told it wasnt that difficult. i would also like to put a LSD in it and get a longer 5th gear.
The recent "Modified" magazine has a good write-up in it.

make sure to use only honda parts, I had some syncros replaced and they came out worse because they were aftermarket parts, which I found out later. then I used honda syncros and it was much better.
if you need parts contact gearspeed.inc they're very helpfull

residual oil inside the case may be sludge now. open it up scrape away, clean with brake cleaner and repeat.
replace all the seals, bearings in the clutch/transmission housings and on the shafts/diff. interlock most likely will be rounded and out of spec.
if synchro rings have acceptable clearance between the gear cones and the rest of the assembly is ok then scuff the gear cones wit ha scotchbrite pad. if the synchro is garbage then replace it.
clutch release parts are probably worn. spring, release fork and the arm that the clutch cable attaches to are easy to replace.
you'll need a helms, mic, snap ring pliers and feeler gages to check other clearances in the tranny to locate other out of spec parts.
